    Hello everyone!

I just returned from the motherland in Stevensville, MD and have much to share! This was a really great trip, we put together two really excellent Wood Library runs and also completed our second hand-picked Private Stock build. Paul Miles and I worked together to mastermind this and it was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Currently, it will be the one and only McCarty 594 Hollow Body that has ever been done with full Koa top and back. It is truly a one of a kind build from the Private Stock. I've encountered lots of Koa in my time in the industry, but rarely if ever this amazing. Pictures cannot do this top justice. All lumber was selected by P.Miles and myself.

Amazing!!! I've been arguing with myself for hours about which I would prefer as the top or the back. (I Better stop looking at this.)

They are kind of both "V's" but I assume you mean the first one. That one is prettier for sure...which would also make an awesome back because the beauty/symmetry would be uninterrupted by the hardware/electronics. The second Koa piece has those cool vertical stripes...but less going on in the middle...where the bridge/strings/pickups would cover. Jesus...I really really gotta stop looking at this...

Now that you mention it, they are both Vs. I agree that the first is quite striking n that traditional koa way, but I was thinking of the second for the top. I really like the tree look it gives and I think it's figure would flow nicely to the fingerboard.

It would look great along side your other really cool guitars.

Oh yeah! I'm trying to get in there and do at least a single build when we go out for our Wood Library runs. I think the two we have in the oven with them right now are going to be great.

P.Miles and I mulled over that topic pretty considerably but I feel confident in our decision. I think using the more figured cut for the top is the right move. With the Koa pick-up rings, knobs, switch tip, Flame Maple bound F-holes and smoked chrome hardware it will visually melt together. Considering those options, I think it will all work together well.

I will say this for anybody interested...

If you want to order it and pay for it in full, I could see about swapping them around? I normally wouldn't request that kind of situation to pre-order something, but changing a very intimate aspect of the specifications is a huge risk to me and it would have to be a for-sure, no cancellation possible type of deal for me to do that (if you wanted to let it run as I intended and pre-order, then a much smaller deposit would be fine... Ball-park of 25% down).

They ARE! And that was a big part in why they were chosen together. I think our decision will create a visually stunning instrument.
