I'm torn between these two guitars, both being sold locally. I can only buy one (so says the wife). I like the beefy feeling of the mc58, and the ebony board and top look fantastic (back plate is signed by prs). The hollowbody II is so light it's like you're not holding anything. It has 57/08s, neck binding and a non 10 top. It seems super versatile, however I'm worried that one day the piezo will crap out.

So, MC58 Artist or Hollowbody II?

What is your preferred type of music to play? Volume? What other instruments do you have (and plan to keep)?

The HBII is very versatile, even without the piezo. Definitely better with those pickups than the previous stock ones. I don't think the piezo durability should give you excess concern.

Two great guitars. Is one a better price than the other?

The hbii is $200 more. I guess my biggest concern is longevity. I'd go with the hbii, but I want something that will last a lifetime, since I'll probably never have this type of expendable income again. I know the mc58 is a solid hunk of wood with less moving parts and will probably stand the test of time.

Those two are pretty far apart and I'm sure you can be happy with either.
I honestly wouldn't worry about the expected life of the hollow body. The top and back are carved out of wood and aren't going to come to be damaged with some serious abuse. I've had one for close to 20 years and have never had an issue. It is also the guitar I most frequently travel with because it is light and compact in the fitted case. I have no reason to believe it won't last another 50 years.
Go with the one you like the best. It will last at least your lifetime.

That's a tough call, both great guitars. But if you're buying one for life, I would opt for the Hollowbody for its versatility.

Having a piezo is like having a second guitar built in. And lightness is very nice bonus as well.
