Hi Everyone! I will be making a special order for a PRS 594 with Artist upgrades, specifically what I am after is a maple neck/maple fingerboard. But I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions on any other upgrades that are available that I might want to consider? I don't want to go too crazy and price it out of my range, but I also don't want to leave anything on the table that might be special. Let me know your thoughts.

If you get Artist Package, opt for the flame maple neck since you're getting maple already. Other options are included like Brazilian board, hybrid hardware, pickup choice, etc. Be prepared to wait months for a special order. I placed my order last May and I just got the email that it was shipped yesterday. I can't wait to see it.

I have one with a maple neck and Braz fretboard, and it’s a pretty special guitar. It has a great sound, and doesn’t lose the 594 vibe.

Just so it’s been said, you may want to consider which pickups you want. The standard 58/15LT pickups are good, and I’m not sure I would change them. If you look at the catalog Garrett has kindly posted, you have many options. Some have been wanting to make the bridge, neck or both pickups a little hotter (er brighter), and have been outfitting it with 59/09 or 57/08. Obviously, it’s up to you and the sound you are aiming for.

I highly recommend maple neck and maple fingerboard ...oh. Well chosen! I think the default is that it comes with a satin finish. I hope you're alright with that. I actually called my dealer back and made sure that was the case, because satin finish is best finish.

The other main thing is the pickups. I kind of dig covered pups, but if you want a tad more gain, you could opt for the 85/15 pups. I think the order of increasing gain after that goes: the 57/08, 59/09, the HFS/VB combination, and the \m/ pups. But I'm getting old and forgetful, so someone please double-check my work.

The other choices are hardware (nickel, gold, or hybrid) and colour. I personally think hybrid looks snappy as...

Obviously the best colour is Black Gold Burst, but we can't have an all black gold burst collection of guitars, so perhaps you could pick one of the more esoteric colours like Loch Ness Monster Green, Malaysian Pale Blue, or Cat's Tongue Pink. Note that some of the colours can have a natural back as an option. (My next guitar will be Bonnie Pink with a natural back, and maple neck and fretboard.)

In terms of prices, I don't know what any of those choices do to the price, you may want to run them by your dealer. In my case, I just ordered what I wanted and the dealer gave me a final best price that I was happy with, so I didn't have to cut any corners.

One of the choices that will definitely raise the price is getting a fancier case. I don't think that's even an option -- your dealer would have to buy the case and tack the case price on.

I am going to stick with the stock 58/15LT pickups. I have played another 594 and the pickups are what initially sold me on the 594.

Yes I want the satin finish so that is a big plus for me! I also think the maple neck/fingerboard gives the guitar a distinctive look. I also like what a maple neck adds to the sound as well. I am also going with the hybrid hardware, very sharp looking!

Thanks for all the suggestions! They are very helpful! Keep them coming, want to make sure I don’t leave anything on the table.

I dig the hybrid hardware, think it's the nicest hardware option. I know you're already sold on a maple neck but have you ever tried one of the rosewood necks? I mean the neck itself not the fretboard. The feel and sound are unimaginable until you've actually tried one... and again the feel of it! Just my two cents but it's one of the things that I was most impressed with on my 594 WL :)

I am trying to decide between Blue Fade, Violet Blue Burst, and Charcoal Cherry Burst. I am leaning towards the Violet Blue Burst.

dude.... I love that combo. A forum member here has a "bruise burst" guitar that I really dig. Its purple in the middle with a blue burst. I'm not sure how different it is from violet blue burst, or if it's different at all. I dig.

I'm partial to mahogany with a darkwood board but it sounds like you've put some thought into your neck choice. I have a maple board strat so I get it.

Are you doing singlecut or doublecut?

Just a heads-up, but if you tried a 594 with mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard, the guitar will sound different with a maple/maple neck combination.

So if, as you said, you like the pickups on the guitar you played, be prepared for results that may be a bit different with regard to the guitar’s tone.

They won’t be bad, of course; they’ll simply sound different.
