Hi All.

I am a new owner of an SE Custom 22 Vintage. I had my mind made up to get this guitar for several weeks and finally pulled the string.

I didn't have time to completely try it out in the store (plug it in) because I was short on time and the store is 30+ miles from home.

Anyway, I got it home and hooked it up and after playing for about 15 minutes, I just felt that the sound wasn't quite right, but only on the low E string.

It's hard to describe, but it just doesn't sound "clear or pure".

Any ideas or should I just plan on taking back to the dealer and ask their opinion?

TIA

Jim P.

Unless the guitar was sold "as is", you should be able to get the dealer to address the problem. Either a free "set up" or a 100% money back return.

It's worth the drive to get it right.

Hi Jim - agree with Ruger that the dealer should make it right. Is this an older used SE CU22 or one of the new ones? Does the sound happen in all pickup positions? Have you tried changing strings?

Is that string also louder than the rest?

I got my new guitar yesterday and the low E as well as the A to a lesser degree were both too loud and "boomy" and less clear like you describe so I had to move that side of the pickups further away from the strings and that sorted the problem.

I agree with the others - Take it back to the shop. Most likely a set up is needed, although it could be the strings or even a pick up (does it sound "cloudy" in all PU positions?)

You could try changing the strings, could be something as simple as a dead string.... yes they (VERY rarely) come out of the pack that way, some times, had it happen once.
