So I'm 3 days now with my Grey/Black SE Custom 22 Semi Hollow and it's even more than I hoped. As usual, the PRS quality shines through in every aspect. I'm a long time owner having owned a Standard 22 back in the 90's, and now I own 2 DGT's, a Maple capped and a Mahogany Standard. I had been looking at a '79 ES 335 TD for $3K and it was mint, absolutely gorgeous. But I just didn't want to part with $3K so I looked for alternatives, I started with the SE Hollowbody II & SE Hollowbody Standard. I like them a lot but, I really wanted a semi hollow body to more closely get that 335 sound. I stumbled across the SE Custom 22 semi hollow and did some investigation. I very quickly decided to get a brand new one in Grey/Black. The past few years I've really loved grey or blue guitars for some reason. The price was right for sure.
Well I've now played it 4 hours over the past 2 days and I'm blown away! the 8515 S's sound amazing, the trem is stable just like my DGT's, and the semi hollow "bite", just like a good 335 can really put you out in front of the mix when you want it. It chimes beautifully ( My Bad Cat Cub IV has a role there admittedly). The coil tapping gives you so much flexibility to get virtually any kind of sound you want.
This beauty sits right up there with my DGT's in my mind. Color me impressed!
