Love my Standard S2, Will I like DGT SE?

I have a Standard S2 22 Satin and love it... I've also been jonesin' for a DGT for years - how different in feel, playability, tone options, etc would I be getting with a DGT SE over a stock Standard S2? Like is there something I'll get with the DGT SE that I can't get out of the S2?

I own a DGT SE. I can't compare it to a standard S2 because I've never played one. I will say that it hits far beyond it's price point in terms of features, tone and playability. It is the only SE I've owned where I felt the stock pickups were good enough to leave in the guitar.

I did add locking tuners, lampshade knobs, and a Mann Made complete bridge replacement. None of that was necessary but it improves the owner experience.

S2 Standard > SE DGT
I have 3 S2 22s...ill be the honest one here...the SE DGT didnt scratch that itch for me...I played one recently and was disappointed for one reason or another...I got another S2 used...check daves guitar shop in WI the have a bunch...maybe try a used Vela if you want something different...I do own an SE SAS for that bolt on feel but the S2s are better IMO!

Thanks! I have a Vela..and a NF53...all I seem to like is PRS's "something different" guitars 😅

I've been pondering stalking the usual internet music gear selling sites until I source a set of DGT pickups and try them in the S2 Standard (with some wiring changes) as an option of getting a DGT..maybe getting the best of both worlds.

Of my 3 standards I have different pups...they all sound quite different...ones satin like yours as well...I say go play one and decide for yourself...used they're cheap at Daves like I mentioned.
.that might be the ticket...

Unrelated question - how does Dave’s wind up with soooo many used PRS guitars? What’s going on up there? Is it some bizarre PRS “catch and release” cult living around there? It’s like one of those giant car auction sites that get thousands of used cars in.:p:D

Not sure how it happens, but I've bought several from Dave's and they've all been better than described - I won't hesitate to buy more from them!

I'm not sure, but I've bought used guitars that I swear were new from them...they def have some SE DGTs for the OP

Have an S2 Standard 22 Satin, and have tried the SE DGT on a couple occasions... also didn't do it for me. Not a bad guitar, but it's hard to go up against the S2 Satin, they're probably the best PRS I've played short of core models. The DGT just felt like another SE to me, and they've been having some QC problems with the fretwork on some SE's lately, including a couple of the SE DGT's I've seen in person.

If you want that specific thing (DGT pickups, neck profile, controls, etc.) of course, it'll scratch an itch. But the S2 is on another level.

My understanding is its some sort of agreement with PRS where guitars like the ones that make the rounds with the internet shills wind up.

I'd absolutely do the pickup stalking thing and put them in a s2 over a seDGT. For whatever reason the DGT pickups pop up in waves. Sometimes even for a pretty decent price and then of course there's the crackheads out there too.

The S2 standards are one of the very best S2 there are. Along with the Vela you already own.

So I watched several guitars at Dave's going back several years to the first time I bought from them. I watched a particular new guitar and hit up their site daily. After a few weeks it went, in one day, from new to used with a much more attractive price. Either they do it (move from New to Used) based on how long it's been in their inventory, or it's a sneaky way to get around MAP.

Makes sense.
VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME!😄😆

I had been wondering if it was an MAP bypass technique. ProAudioStar does that - I bought my first SE HB II from them and it was sold as used, but it was still in full factory packaging down to styrofoam on the knobs. I've bought a few more things from them as well since then and would not hesitate to buy their "used" or "open box" guitars.

My current SE HB II was from Dave's, and while listed as used, it certainly showed zero signs of previous use.
