I'm lookin' to ditch the Mira Bass from my KL33, it's a nice sounding pickup fer sure, but just the wrong "kind".

I bought a wooden adaptor ring from China that sorta matches the Korina finish and thought that it was for a Tele-style pup, but turns out to be for a regular single coil... I'm cool with that, but I don't have a favorite Strat-style neck pup yet and was hoping I could get some opinions.

I'd like something a little hotter, but not stacked or with a dummy-coil, as much as I love and appreciate the split tones I get from PRS hum buckers I want a "real" single coil tone for the neck, that's just where I am in life at the moment.

What do I need to be concerned about with pole piece distance? The adapter is cut horizontally, or with no angle for compensation. The guitar is naturally really even spectrum.. meaning it sounds really balanced so I don't think I need a "muddy" or "bright" sounding pup, but would still like something with "character" if you know what I mean.

I play a lot of funk, disco, reggae, an the rest of the sh!t I'm always talkin' about... but I wouldn't mind soundin' kinda Ernie Eisley-David Gilmore-SRV in a lead-tone kinda way either, so help a brother out!

Wish I could offer some advise. The only single coil guitar I own is my 1983 G&L Nighthawk. Used to be my only guitar back in the day. I used to have an OLD marshall stack during that time. Once while playing an outdoor party somebody rigged up a rather large old spotlight and had it shining on our stage, that thing was friggin bright. As we were on break, I was standing on stage drinking a beer and talking to some guys when I happened to look at my stack. The light was shining through the grillcloth of top cab and I could see that three of the four speakers didn't have ANY paper on them! WTH. I had know idea what happened. I was pissed the rest of the night. Original vintage celestions, GONE.

I recently put a set of Lollar Blackface in a buddy's Strat and they really bring the goods. I had also put a set of Fralin Vintage Hots in the same guitar earlier this year. We both like the Blackface better.

Van Zandt Vintage Plus (supposedly Stevie was using these) used to be my favorite back in the days before I became enlightened and went noise free.

I wouldn't worry about pole piece distance. The Strat pickup poles will be a bit wider than the string spread, but that's not a problem.

Word!

Hey Sergio
I was looking at the SD P-Rails for that guitar there is also a pickup ring called the Triple Shot that works with that pickup to give you all the sounds and no new holes you could even do a fake 408 switching with this setup :)

Yeah I have a P-Rail in my Gucci top (thanks Richard!) and while I think its an interesting pup I'm not sure I'd want to go that way again.

Fralin is usually my 1st stop in replacement pickups. You might really dig a P-92 or Twangmaster, no adapter ring required. Noiseless, too. They really sound fantastic. The difference between the two is really basic. The Twangmaster has 6 slug magnets like a Fender pickup, and the P-92 has 6 screws and a bar magnet underneath like a humbucker or P-90. So, the tones are either very Fender or very Gibson but both are very much single coil tones. I'm sad I only own one Fralin pickup at the moment, a regular ol humbucker, but it's getting it done in a fantastic way in the neck of my baritone.

EDIT: Geez, I totally forgot I have a set of Fralin hum cancelling P-90s for Jazzmaster in my only non-PRS guitar. Shows how much I play my only non-PRS guitar. :)

I love me some Lollars and Fralins.

Jon Baxter's stuff sounds interesting. Good prices, too!
