I'm tired of the G string constantly slipping flat. I'm looking at these Hipshot 6GLO Grip Locks as I don't want the green tuner buttons, nor vintage, Kluson style unit again. Does anyone have experience with these on a ZM guitar ?

or is there another locking tuner that's been used successfully on the ZM ? I don't mind drilling some new mounting screw holes, but would rather not get into reaming the existing headstock holes.

thanks gang.

Someone is a big proponent of the Hipshots. Maybe dogrocket? At any rate, they do have some that don't require new holes. They have a plate that goes on the back of the neck and the tuners lock into that. I bought a set to try on an SC Ted, but couldn't get the old collars out of the headstock. I ended up buying a locking set of Vintage Klusons that would fit in the existing collars.

Here's a shot of their locking plate system

On my ZM I use these tuners:

TK-0735-001 Gotoh SD90 3x3 Locking Tuners

They fit in the factory bushings and the factory screws line up as well. The only difference is the "button" is a bit smaller and a slightly lighter shade of green. You can't tell excpet when you hold them side by side. Once installed they look factory.

The best part is they lock and hold tune!

Oh...and you can find them all over the internet in various places. I bought mine from a local guy that runs an ebay store.

I had those Gotoh lockers on my ZM since they fit right in, but I had them taken off a few months back as I did not like them.
I had my dealer put on the Planet Waves Autotrim lockers as that is what all of my other SEs have on them.
They require drilling, but they are my favorite next to the Phase IIIs and Phase IIs that is on my S2.

Drilling ? As in just drilling another screw mounting hole or drilling "out" the headstock hole to allow the tuner to fit ?
thanks

Just screw holes, never the headstock holes on any of my SEs.
The Autotrim tuners also have a nice ratio and turn very easy, but the best part is they cut the string off on the first turn.

Have you checked to make sure it's the tuners causing the problem and not the nut? Every time I've had a problem with a string going flat it's been a result of the nut pinching the string. The nuts on the SEs are not the greatest and I've had issues with them, especially when putting on strings larger than .09s.

Just mentioning this in case it might help.

Not the nut, I had the stock SE nut replaced with a graphtech nut, the other 5 strings stay in tune. I'm wondering if it's the DR Pure Blues strings I put on a few weeks ago. I'll be pulling them for some GHS Burnished Nickel strings soon.

Now that you mention it, one time I had the same problem and was due to a defective string. I brought the guitar to a tech and he filed and lubed the nut and it didn't resolve the issue. The guitar had locking tuners, so I was baffled. But once I changed the strings the problem went away.

Hope you get it worked out.

He can modify your existing tuners if you send them to him. I think he's just sold out of the stock he has on hand. I specifically asked him about the ZM tuners and he said he can modify them.

I am waiting on new inventory to modify. But the SE tuners I am offering do NOT fit the Zack Meyers guitars.
I CAN modify your existing tuners (any brand, any type). What happens is I drill and tap a hole down the center of the tuning shaft, and add the locking screw.
This way you re-install the tuners on to your guitar, without drilling new holes in the headstock.

That's a really cool service. What is your usual turnaround time for this?
