Excerpt from practice... "Little Wing"
Understand my keyboard player grew up in a strict Christian family and has never heard "Little Wing". Of course he knows who Jimi was, but he couldn't pick out any of his tunes. We basically play all Christian music...at churches , worship gatherings, revivals, etc.
But I thought this might be fun. This is basically 5 minutes after me giving him the chords on his ipad. I didn't really riff out that much, wanting at this point in our practice, to make sure we were together on the chord changes.
I'm eager to hear him sing...as although these aren't Christian lyrics as far as I believe, they do talk about taking someone under their "wing". If you know Psalm 91, that speaks about this in a similar way, offering protection.... any rate...getting off on a tangent.

Our practices tech wize are going great. We record the audio and film the entire thing, so we could do things like this, and extract a small segment.
So..even though I know this song like the back of my hand...for some reason, since the chords are on my ipad...I seem to be just focused on that. How strange is that? A crutch I need to throw away. By filming ourselves, even after all these years of playing, this is the stuff you see and learn, and no one can have more of an impact, than just seeing it for yourself on film.

Next we are getting better cameras, vs the cheapie web cams and realize we need to work on more appealing lighting vs the overhead daylight LED. We just started this around Christmas time and feel what we've done has been a big success to date. The backdrop is new...but it looks fake and we aren't dancing in the Swiss Alps either... new backdrops on the way too.
Thanks to all for checking these out and the VERY helpful comments many of you guys are leaving. We take them all seriously, especially the constructive criticisms

EDIT...yes the dang ipad is in the way ...ugh!

Dang! Sounds great! Are you using a modeler? If so what are you using and what amp and cab models are you using?

Yes...I'm going into a Helix LT, just off camera. In the FX loop, I have the new Boss SDE 3000s dual delay unit. In front of the Helix, I go into the Line6 HF Effects first...mainly for a compressor and the "poly capo" (polyphonic pitch shift) which eats so much DSP in the Helix...so I just bought that mainly for the polyphonic pitch shifting. Also some OD, that normally would go in front of an amp too.

The Helix amp is the "Litigatur" (sp?)... a line6 amp..and I think I'm using dual cabs...their Marshall 4x12 25 watt...and the similar 30 watt cab. No irs as when Helix did their cab updates about a year ago, I felt 3rd party IR weren't needed anymore. And it just makes things easier and tidy.

My buddy uses his Korg, which is insane.
We're going into a QSC 16 digital mixer for our IEM and the outputs of that going into our DAW (Presonus Studio One). We are also running OBS on the same computer (with two monitors), for our web cam(s). We just started the recording aspect, but the QSC is an insane little digital mixer.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!

Thanks, I take your question as a compliment. BTW, the room is totally quiet, since we both use IEM...I prefer headphones for practice as I can yank them off much quicker. What you're hearing is pretty much our headphone mix too. The Korg is providing the drums and there is minor tweaking in Studio One, mainly with volume adjustments, rather than a "push fadar" mix.

The iPad as a crutch is definitely a thing. I have had to work with just about every band I have been in with getting rid of the iPads and books before that. It is okay for practice but really doesn't look good during performances. I like the look of an iPad on a stand much more than an old music stand with a binder on it. It is interesting that if there is a book or an iPad there, people will stare at it instead of looking around at the people in front of them.

I used to have one clamped to my mic stand but it wasn't for lyrics. It was for the set list and I had an app on it to be able to adjust my digital mixer without having to turn around and adjust it behind me. I typically only had to do that for the first couple of songs then everything on and off stage would be balanced and I could leave it alone at that point. I started giving it to my wife who attended every gig and loves to listen to us and showed her how to operate it. That took one job off of my mind.

Getting to see yourself on video is a valuable tool. I used to do audio recordings of gigs then listen to them to correct things we needed to stop doing, like pausing between songs. You don't realize the things you do when you are on the stage most of the time. Being interesting to watch and listen to takes deliberate effort. Once we were able to start doing videos on our phones that upped the game even more. You then get to see the stupid things you do that feel cool in the moment and realize that you need to never do that again because it wasn't even 1/10th as cool as it felt in the moment.

100%
Its not necessarily the "cool" things...but the normal stuff that looks stupid! lol!

A friend of mine recently recorded a song video. He set up his camera, ran test vids, etc., and had everything perfect. Camera angles clearly showed his hands, whole guitar, waste up view of him, lighting correct... EVERYTHING. When he sat down to record the video, he moved his music stand in front of him. A total crutch! He knew the song without the music, but wanted the video to be perfect. He nailed the song (relatively easy) first take, and went to view his video. You already know where this is going...

The music stand hid his whole guitar except the head stock. You couldn't see either hand, and could only see him from the shoulders up. :p He sent me the video and we couldn't stop laughing. The music stand occupied about 75% of the screen window. :p:p:p While that's funny, the best part is, the whole reason he filmed the song was to show someone else how to play it! LMAO It was supposed to be a play through showing another friend how to play the song, and you couldn't see ANY of the guitar or his hands.

I told him I'm saving the video for his first "Bloopers" reels.
