I'm thinking about taking the plunge on a Les Paul and I hear that PRS does a good Les Paul copy, I just don't which one comes closest to a Les Paul standard with P.A.F. type pickups.

I have two vintage LP's as well as a Single cut . I don't think of the PRS as a copy outside of the shape and even that's a bit different.
That being said my rosewood neck quilt top single cut will pull off all the LP stuff and then some and it's lighter , there's a nice one out there for <3K very similar to mine .

I went Gen 1 SC for my PRS similar guitar. These days the SC 594 will be a closer fit.

For the record, my Les Paul is really a Heritage H150. The closest thing I'll ever get to a 59 LP by the people who made the original 59 LP. Those people are all gone now...

SC58 is the king of PRS singlecuts. What I alwasy wanted my Les Paul's to be, not what they are or were. The current production model would be the fan fav 594. There really is no copy but there is the PRS take.

Honorable mention would be the outnof production second version of the 245 with a two piece bridge.

Sounds like Gibson is the only alternative to getting a real Les Paul. Every time I googled Les Paul copies PRS came up and the reviews said PRS was close to the Gibson Les Paul so I figured I'd check it out. BTW, do they make any humbucker models with regular fret markers?

A Les Paul is a Les Paul. I just wouldn't call a PRS a Les Paul copy. That would be epiphone or something. My SC58 is better than my Les Pauls and I like LP's. The 2nd version 245 is close to the SC58. The 594 is the evolution of those. Personally when shopping for a 594, I bought another Les Paul, but when I found my SC58 my fixed bridge SC hunt was over. It's the guitar I've always wanted. Shortlu followed by picking up a Tremonti for the singlecut I've always wanted with a trem.

The Heritage mentioned above is a fantastic guitar. Eastman makes a good singlecut too.

But I wouldn't call a PRS a copy. Sure, it's their take on a Les Paul, but copy is something else to me.

S2 Singlecut Standard would fit these requirements.

I find PRS Singlecuts from all eras, and 594s to have a wider and more balanced frequency response than LPs. The LP tends to be more mid-focused.

As 11Top rightly points out, Gibson’s Custom Shop and up are the only way to go, a Core 594 is superior to a standard production LP.
