Anyone else picking these up? The Fourth Album and Houses of the Holy out today (1, 2 and 3 were out a few months ago) and listening to them now. I for one find the sound of these remasters pretty revelatory - these are records I have been listening to virtually my entire life, and I am hearing things I have never heard before. The clarity and sonics are really great, plus for once there is a set of remasters that comes with unreleased companion material that I actually want to hear.

Read an article in Guitar World a while back about these and they too were pretty impressed with the un-released material being included. Sounds like maybe this would be a nice christmas present for me. :)

solacematt; It just bugs me that they keep releasing 'remasters' every few years.[/QUOTE said:
I understand completely. I'm the guy who has bought the entire catalog over and over, first on vinyl as a kid, then on tape when I got a car, then when the CDs first came out, again when the first remasters were released in '93, the second "remasters" in 2008 and now these. Plus, I have picked up every live record, odds and ends release, etc along the way.

These new ones really are worth it. The sound quality is leagues better than the last remasters, and they are not done in the style of the 'Mothership' remasters, which were too exaggerated and hot. These sound like the original albums but with noticeably more fidelity and musicality.

I bought the set of remastered versions that have already come out in HD 192/24 format. They sound great, far better than earlier remasters -- IF you have a high definition audio system that can benefit from them.

I'm also informed that Page has wanted these to come out in the future on even higher-definition formats when they become available, so the original files were also encoded at even higher sampling and bit rates for the future.

If you're not a studio cat/audiophile, obviously these remasters are overkill, but if you're like me, they're fascinating.

I'm like you and find it equally fascinating that Page is thinking ahead to future formats like that. Really looking forward the release of Physical Graffiti and Presence as they are my two favorite LZ albums.

I love Zeppelin, but the Deluxe Boxset versions are way beyond my price range. I may get the double CD versions at some point. Or Jimmy's book in the softcover form. That would be cool. I'm such a book nut, and there are tons of good ones out recently and in the near future.

I listen to "In through the out door" on cassette in my Grand Marquis, as I believe the true way to enjoy Zep is with wow and flutter.

As a studio guy, I have to marvel at not only the song and part-writing, but the production ideas and thinking are just incredible.

It's really an amazing body of work.

I dug it on 8 track in my '78 25th Anniversary Corvette that got stolen the day after I picked it up at the dealer. So...one day of joy. LOL

Picked up the Physical Graffiti remaster yesterday on its release date (which happened to be 40 years to the day from the original release - cool) and have spun it 4 times now. It's amazing - I have no words. This is my favorite record of all-time and I am hearing things I never knew were there. If you have not already, go buy it now!

I've got mixed feelings about all the re-masters that have been released. Most of the music was first "learned" through the tape deck/6x9" speakers in my 1968 Plymouth Valient (4 door/slant 6/bench seats). What my brain heard was the "correct" sound. Hearing the re-masters is sort of like having a childhood belief shattered. Sort of like when I found out the story behind the album cover of Herb Albert's Whipped Cream and Other Delights. Shaving cream and a pregnant model? It just ain't right. With the re-masters I find myself listening for all the differences and all the "wrongs" that pop into my head when an out-of-place bit comes up. Yeah, I know, I'm kinda screwed up. Well, I gotta go now . . . .
