Kicked in the teeth by a horse... twice.......

Soldering is like woodworking. Proper tools and measure twice, cut once approach is a must. Don't save on solder and keep the tip clean. Clean it with damp sponge almost religusly. Touch the contacts with a small amount of solder and apply solder to the leads before you attemp to joining them together. Did I mentioned to keep things clean?
Don’t forget the solder flux! It makes every connection easier to deal with. Much greater solder flow. 40 watt soldering irons are your friend….

Okay, so just a simple pickup change, adding locking tuners, and John Mann brass tremolo blocks to three SE guitars....

1. SE 594 -
- tuners, CHECK!
- no brass trem block
- Solder in new 58/15 LT pickups - FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ZERO SOUND!!!

2. SE Custom 24 Violet Quilt
- tuners, check!
- brass tremolo block, check!
- Solder in new Dragon II pickups - FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some sound, melted a push/pull and the blade switch!!

3. SE Swamp Ash Special
- tuners, check!
- brass tremolo block, check!
- NOT DOING CHIT WITH THE NEW 57/08 PICKUPS!!! All THREE are gong to my buddy Ricky Kellems.

My soldering station and shaking hands can kiss my freaking wee Elven arse!!!
When you're 0-2, it's time to make Ricky 3-0!!! Butchered the 58/15's so bad I had to order
pickup lead extension cables ole Rick will get to solder and heat shrink!.

I'm fracking embarrassed!!! NEVER have I had a set of pickups and guitars whoomp me arse like
these mud puppies! I AM DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHH!!!!!

I actually ended up doing the SE Swamp Ash Special pickups replacement and electronics upgrades myself.
Also, ended up doing the SE Custom 24 Violet Quilt Dragon II pickups and electronics install myself as well...

Oh I've had simular experience today.

Decided to flip magnet on 5310 I put in my vela and replace the vol pot that failed after putting 5310 in it this summer.

I snapped a pic of what wires went to what terminal on the se vol pot and transfered them to the new USA pot.

Then tried to flip magnet. Got pickup apart and discovered the threaded bar the screw slugs thread through was part of the magnet????? I kept thinking that bar must be stuck to the magnet so trying to get it apart I pulled the tiny black wire that comes out of the coil and is soldered to inside of baseplate off. UGH kept thinking I was going to jack around and ruin the pickup!!!

I got it put back together only to find vol pot does nothing.

I'll have to take it all back apart and figure it out.

Very frustrating.
