He did not play any PRS, amps included. The dynamics were astounding, and the caliber of players indeed jaw-dropping. He play for over 2 hours, then we forced him to do an encore. He obliged with the slowest, most soulful version of the Dead's "Loser" that i've ever heard, which made the woman next to me cry. He closed with the Allman's "Jessica". Who does these things? Who has a band with a violin, and two other string players who were doing solos on mandolins and electric banjos, trading lines with Warren? Rhythm section laid down wicked, wicked grooves underneath. Great, great night.
Warren is a talented man. I haven't caught him with the current Ashes & Dust band yet but saw him on his last solo tour and with Gov't Mule. The last time was a special Mule-O-Ween show with a 1st set of Gov't Mule songs and a 2nd set of all Neal Young songs. The man can do no wrong in my book. The current touring band sounds like a must see so hopefully I'll have a chance to go.
I hope they were more lively than the new album. He's coming here in a couple months, but it's a Jerry Garcia symphonic show in an amphitheater that is notoriously quiet. Gotta pass on this one.
