How cool is that? We moved to put my wife near two golf courses, so she can drive a golf cart out of the garage and go play. I haven't played golf in 6+ years but intend to try it again.

So one of my new neighbors picked me up last night and took me down a road marked 'Employees Only' to the barn where the course equipment is stored and maintained.

Couple of guys had a portable PA set up and each had an acoustic guitar and mics plugged in. Couple of other guys just hanging out. Couple of beers, cigars (not for me), and some homemade hooch (also not for me).

One of the guys gave me a flash drive with hundreds and hundreds of chord sheets on it.

Should be fun!

I took my Taylor but listened a lot more than participated since it was my first outing. I did whip through an acoustic version of Can't You See since they had it in one of their notebooks.

The music stands are all hand made - welded from pieces and parts found in the maintenance barn.

Too cool!

I don't know, not sure I'd be able to tolerate the cigar smoke.

But the rest of it sounds fun.

You should learn some Red Guitars -- Good Technology is their big song, but I like everything they've done, especially their Slow To Fade album...I practically have it memorized. Crocodile Tears might work well in an acoustic setting.

Or perhaps the David Sylvian song. Singular, though.

Really? You can't have blues without a bit of cigar/cigarette smoke, that's what improves intonation.

In any case, no cigars = no cigar boxes which = none of these:

Yeah, I'm alright with that. :p

No, seriously, there are so many other people that would be a better choice for filling that void left by me not playing blues...I don't think the world will miss me...

I'm with Dusty Chalk on the cigar smoke. I did discover a couple of years ago that one of my long-term neighbors played drums and had a weekend thrash metal band (beginner level). I had walked by his house for years and had no idea until I heard them through the garage door one weekend. They had no bassist, and since I have a couple of basses, I invited myself to join them. Now I know the bass lines for several Metallica, Megadeath, Judas Priest and Kiss songs, though I wouldn't have wanted to play anything more public than a neighborhood barbecue with them - still too beginner. One of the guys and two of the wives smoked cigarettes, which was probably the biggest bummer for me, as it really tears up my sinuses, but what are you gonna do?......
Band fell apart after about a year due to my neighbor and the lead guitar player falling out with each other. Oh well no more thrash for me.(darn).

There are so many people that would be a better choice for filling that void left by me not playing thrash metal...... (or blues either).

I'm an ex smoker - but it's been many, many years. I wasn't a fan of the cigar smoke, but large garage doors were open on both ends of the barn. One of the guys asked if the smoke bothered me and offered to move elsewhere. But there was enough of a breeze through the building that it wasn't an issue.
