Since I was going to be gone over the long weekend, I dropped off my recently-traded-for SE Custom 24 off with my tech to do some personalization/mods:

  • Widen the nut slots for 10s
  • Swap the magnet in the neck Vintage Bass PU with an A4
  • Swap the magnet in the bridge HFS PU with an A5
  • Put covers on the PUs
  • Replace the 3-way blade switch with my now-standard 5-way super-switch setup, plus recycle the tone push/pull as a phase reversal switch if possible
I picked it up tonight after work, and these turned out to be a great combination of mods. The magnet swaps relaxed the pickups' strong mid-focus, which I suspect is what many people find sterile about them. I was already familiar with the new switching (both of my 7s are set up that way), but the phase reversal switch adds a squawk-y new option for cutting leads. And the covers just make it look classier.

Ask and you shall receive... eventually. :p
