Just got my PRS S2 Custom 22 yesterday and it has been going out of tune really quick

Does it go sharp, flat, random one or the other, or random bits of both across the strings?

Did you get it new? Did the vendor (dealer or store or guy you bought it from) do a proper set-up?

Did you just put new strings on? How much string is wound around each post? Shouldn't be more than a full turn or so, preferably between 1/2 and 3/4 for me. The advantage of locking tuners...

Does it have factory strings (010s) or is it set up with 011s? Does it go back in tune (or at least closer) if you bump the trem just a bit?

As you tune, do you hear the strings go "plink" or "ping" every now and then? This indicated binding in the nut.

- Sometimes they go flat, sometimes they go sharp

- I got it from the open box section on musicians friend. It was under "mint" condition so practically new

- I have not put new strings on it. Each string is about a quarter of the way around the post at most.

- I believe it has the factory strings on it. It does go in tune when pull the trem (I just realized this)

- I do not hear that as I tune BUT I do hear a sound when I use the tremelo

This ^^^
New strings need stretching
Nuts need lube
Proper set up is a must
Strings simply need retuning sometimes..

Guitar basics 101

I have found all my Newer PRSi to be a bit tight so to speak before you go to far just play it HARD use the trem a bunch mine have all settled down pretty quick

Awesome. That's good to hear. I'll wait a bit before I do anything to it.

Yeah, Musician's Friend has pretty good pricing at times, but their "set-up" might only consist of "open case, check guitar looks new, close case. Oh yeah, check case." I got my P24 from them, IIRC (my memory sux..), and it played great out of the box, but I did lube the nut and tweak action and whatnot, also IIRC. If the guitar was "open box" it might just be "dusty" and need a work out to get back into the groove.

Cool I'll get some wear into it and see how things go form there

Even when I have custom made guitars come in with my preferred string gauge, I always remove the strings and give it a complete setup and intonation as I want it done. Then playing it for awhile allows it to break in and settle down. Even strings that have been stretched a bit, will settle and slide or drift slightly out of tune, even minutely, for a set. No one will wrap strings the way you personally will do it and want it done. No one that I have ever seen will intonate a guitar as you would do for your personal touch. Learning to do these fine points are like tying your own shoes, or wiping your own butt. No one does it like you will do it.

On my stop tail guitars, I use powered graphite in the nut slots and on the bridge where the string rests. This does help as then all friction spots have been cared for. Every string change, I powder down these areas and it makes a difference to my tuning.

No matter how much I stretch a string, a new string will still need to be played a bit to settle down.
