For as long as I can remember i've wanted a PRS Cutom 24 in Sunburst and luckily for me this one came up for sale at an absolute steal of a price a week ago. There is a slight nick on the headstock and also one on the bottom back of the body. It also came with a set of EMG's (ugghhh) but thankfully no routing was done for the battery. I've just bought a set of HFS/Vintage Bass pickups out of a 1991 CE22 to go into it as this guitar originally had that pickup combination. What are peoples thoughts on these pickups? I play a bit of everything but do like to play a bit of shred and metal often (good metal, not core stuff).

This guitar is everything I ever thought a PRS would be, i'd never played one previous to purchasing this. The finish is incredible and the feel of the guitar is beyond anything i've played before.
Here it is...

I must say, that guitar is absolutely gorgeous. Congrats on your new fiddle and for the smart decision to put the HFS and VB pickups in, they truly are spectacular and if your like me and think of PRS guitars in rock, the sound that comes to mind is that of the CU24 with that pickup configuration and you'll love it man.

Beautiful Cu24. Looks like they also put in the 3 way and they put it in the more unusual spot where the tone usually is. You probably know that most Customs have the 5 way in the upper rear location. When you put the pups in (love the HFS/Vintage btw) you may want to move it to the rear location and if you want it all original you can get a 5 way on E-Bay. You may check the MODCAT to see if that fretboard is Brazzy. It looks like it might be if the year is a 2005 or so.

I emailed PRS to inquire about the fretboard as I was thinking it was Brazilian but they've told me it's Indian. It's got some beautiful streaks through it.
As for the EMG's, i've gotta say they do sound alright but there is definitely a lack of dynamics.
I do have the original 5 way but i've never been a fan of them. I'm planning on putting coil tap on a push pull on the tone knob and keeping the 3 way as I like that setup. I was thinking about swapping around the 3 way and tone knob position but i'm not sure as I do quite like the accessibility of the 3 way and I don't use tone too often so it's kinda out the way there. Either way I know how to rewire guitars as i've done plenty so I can always change things around. I do seriously love this guitar.

Correct observation. It's very important check out the diameter of holes, i think they are different for pots and 5 way switch of the toggle switch, maybe the previous owner has enlarged the tone pot hole to putting the toggle switch...?
Hello Goosey, nice guitar and welcome!

Congrats!

Don't forget to tell us about number two...next month...
