Just pulled the plug and purchased a brand new Core Custom 24 in "Charcoal Burst." The seller sent me an offer that really sweetend the deal! I also purchased a set of Phase III faux bone tuner buttons to install, they will both here Thursday. This is the first PRS Core guitar that I have ever purchased brand new, so I'm a wee bit nervous because I've never owned a guitar that cost this much $$$

The guitar in the pics is the guitar that will be here Thursday. From the description, it appears the guitar comes stock with "85/15" pickups. Can anyone tell me anything about these pickups? I have a SE Custom 24 that I installed a set of 59/09's in. How do they sound compared to the 59's? Do they handle high gain, and lower tunings well?

85/15’s are definitely less vintage inspired and slightly more “modern”. If I remember correctly, Paul said “if i knew back in the 80’s what I know now, this is how I would have built pickups”.

The 85/15 neck is a great pickup, treble seems to have mixed opinions.
I really wish a set of \m/ metal squabbin's would magically pop up forsale lol.

Congrats on the score! Sweet!

5909 and 8515 aren't very similar to my ears. I love my 5909 in both my guitars. Absolutely kill in my Cu24. The 8515 are a mixed bag. Like em in the CE24 but haven't found another guitar they work for me in. I liked the bass more than the treble in most of them too.

As mentioned above the squabbin \m/ do pop up. There's been multiple sets and individuals come up recently. I was after a treble for a while but decided to go covered 5909 instead.

I have a set of the 59/09's in my SE Custom 24 and so far have no complaints about them.
Congrats on that beauty! Don't be intimidated by it's cost, rock it!!
Thank's for the words of assurance. I was ginna pull the plug on the guitar at regular price. As soon as I messaged them asking if the guitar was actually in stock and ready to ship. The seller sent over a discount for $600 off. So I didn't hesitate. When it was said and done, I still paid less than asking price
Sweet score! I love the 8515 pickups they can do most anything, for me, with volume and tone adjustment. Give them a chance for a while.
I most definitely will. I've been really into PRS pickups since I installed a set of \m/ metals in my SE CU24. I also reinstalled the stock #'7 back in my 2001 Singlecut, and I've playing that religously lately.

Well...she has arrived! Is it wrong, that I had everything set out to open up the box, and was standing outside waiting on the UPS guy(only b/c the UPS app told me he was on his way)? I didn't realize they now use nitro finish on core guitars, but whatever, the box was opened and the guitar was plugged in, in less than 5 minutes of being brought into the house.
The stock pic's of this guitar didn't do it justice, so here are a few more. After taking her for a test drive, I feel like I'm not even worthy of owning this guitar.
Also just a FYI guy's. I swapped out the stock truss rod cover, for a blank core one, and it really helped smooth out the tone of the guitar...your welcome
