I just got off the phone. It will be here in about 3 days. Guitar Center clearance sale is just too good to pass up. I really wanted birds, because IMHO, that's one of the things that has always identified PRS. But, I got a new whilte NF3, black pickups and pick guard, maple neck, dots. $XXXX!!!!! What kills me.... I REALLY REALLY wanted birds. They had 3 last monday. I talked the wife about it Wednesday night and she said "buy it." Thursday I said "are you sure?" and she gave me the "you don't need any more guitars" speech. So I promised to sell at least two other, non- PRS guitars to fund this after I buy it. We talked Friday... Saturday... last night she hands me a credit card and says "get the guitar and just pay this off when you sell stuff." I get on today, and all the white ones with birds are gone. Disappointing, but I'm still very excited!!!

I can't wait to get this. I've read some comments here about how versatile the NF3s are, and a maple Pattern Regular neck is a thing of beauty!

Come on fast shipping!

Congrats! It's a real dark horse of an axe. Is it whitewash or vintage white?

Pics when you can!

The special clearance site for GC has gotten me twice in the last week! I have a Mesa TA 15 and LOVE the amp, but wanted a loop. They lost their Mesa deal and are dumping Mesa stuff at prices as crazy as the PRS. I got a new Mesa TA 30 head for $300 less than a used one went for on ebay this weekend!

LS, you know I had been wanting the Brent Mason. the GC clearance site had exactly 0 of them. This deal was way too good to pass on on the NF3 so I jumped. (Actually, I tiptoed around and lost my birds! Then I jumped. LOL)

Don't worry about the birds! (I say that because I had the same thing happen to me!) I hemmed and hawed over what was THEN a great price on a 25th anniversary "New Old Stock" (NOS), and by the time I went to go get it, they had sold it. I ended up going home with a NOS DC3, only to return it and go find an NF3 a few weeks later. Assuming you got it for the price you were talking about earlier, you got a great guitar for a price that's keeping me awake at night!

I'm really enjoying my NF3. And I likely paid more than you did! I didn't get birds either, but that was pretty low on my list of cares. Like not even on the list.

Looking forward to the pics in its new habitat.

My apologies. Didn't realize I wan't allowed to list a price. ( i know, I know... Dang new guy causing trouble. Sorry!)

p.s. XXXX is code for "really low price," not for anything "X rated." Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I have found the NF3 to be possibly THE most 'dynamic' and versatile guitar I own.
It can go from the most beautiful clean tones with sparkle that full size hum buckers just can't match to screaming overdrive tones with just the right amount of cut.
You can play big neck pickup solos that have Gilmour tone and fullness.
Also when playing with gain up high, you can roll down the volume and feel like you just parked in tonal heaven.

Another thing that doesn't get mentioned very often is the weight and balance of the guitar.
It's maybe the lightest of my guitars and it just balances so nicely between the neck and body.
You'll see what I mean when you play it for a day or two.

The regular pattern neck with the baked in finish is maybe the most comfortable natural neck I've played.
Feels broken in and smooth and just plain right everywhere up and down.
All in all, this guitar is just very addictive.
My only minor nitpick is the placement of the five way switch.

Don't worry about the birds. It is an instrument, a tool with which to make music, and it will do that job very well. Congratulations!

It's here! or, it's THERE. Got delivered a few minutes ago at home. I am at work. I can't wait to get home!!! I think I feel a cold/flu/headache/measles/mumps/swine flu coming on!

Edit: The UPS driver is a long time, very good friend of mine. My wife just text me a picture of the shipping label. He used to call me "Van Howie" because I play a lot of Van Halen, (and my name is Howie) and on the shipping label which is printed, he wrote "Van" in next to my name.

LOL. They would with me though. I have an iron stomach.

First things first. I know, first impressions, honeymoon stage, etc. That said....

This thing is INCREDIBLE!!! First, I confirmed again that, for me, the Pattern Regular neck is the best neck ever. The finish on this maple version is superior in feel. The pickups are from my experience unique, and fantastic. I don't know whether to describe them as the worlds fattest strat pickups, or as the clearest humbuckers I have ever heard. About an hour was far too brief but I tried it with the Mesa TA and the Mini Recl. It cleans up seriously well with the volume knob and they get real sparkly and strat like when rolled back a bit. I ran this quckly, but through ALL kinds of tones and gain levels, and this may be the best guitar i have ever heard at clean to mean rhythm tone with the volume rolled off a bit, and singing fat solo tones when dimed.

So, first impression: ecstatically happy! What a great guitar!!!

Pics tomorrow after I get a chance to drop them in photobucket.

Congrats...my local GCs only had DC3s left, no NF3s to play with...which of course sent me down the path of "I don't have any stratty guitars..."

You're making me rethink my direction...looking forward to the pics as well!

Here you go....

First, my new baby.
