Just bought a '97 CE22!

If I were to replace the tuners I would only use tuners that had the mounting screws in exactly the right place. Don't want any empty screw holes showing on this guitar.

I might swap these tuners with the Phase 1 tuners on my '95 CU22 since that guitar doesn't really need locking tuners.

Or I may start looking for a nice working set of Phase 1 tuners online.

Thanks!
I hear ya but I didn't care one way or another, lol.
I do love this guitar and will never sell.

Removed the strings, unscrewed the pickup mountings rings and checked the pickups last night. They are original DRAGONS!

The rings are both old and a little cracked though. I'm going to build them up on the back side with some glue I guess to hold them together.

Anyone had this issue? I have, on my '95 CU22. Glued the rings back together with gap filling thick super glue.

It worked but is there some better method to repair them?
Do you like the Dragon bridge pickup?
I used to but got tired of it and am replacing it. Maybe one day, I'll drop the Dragon back in!

Lewguitar, you keeping the 5-way?

I don't like split pots and if I go toggle, I'll ditch all split tones. I hate the noise and vume drop. It's either I keep the 5-way rotary or go to straight humbucker tones and a toggle.

Not sure how difficult it is to install a toggle switch although I feel like I did it years ago and reverted back. I believe I had to widen the hole.

I'm going to keep the Dragons in this CE22 I just acquired. It's kind of cool having something that sounds different from the more vintage sounds I get from my other guitars.

But I replaced the 5 way with a 3 way in the CU22 in my avatar photo.

It's a 2002 CU22 that had Dragon 2 pickups. I removed them and the rotary switch and put Duncan Antiquitys and a 3 way switch in it and now it sounds a lot more like a Les Paul or some kind of Gibson.

Yes you'll need to widen the hole. I use a tapered reamer. It's a special tool for doing just that: enlarging a hole in wood.

I think PRS makes some great pickups that sound more like vintage Gibson pafs now. But the PRS pickups from 20 or 30 years ago I didn't like as much.

It seems that in the last few years especially, PRS has learned a lot about making great sounding vintage style pickups, both humbuckers and single coils.

The original Dragons in my CE22 are not exactly my cup of tea, not being a metal player. I'm more of a blues player with kind of a jazzy chord style. But I'm keeping my "new" '97 CE22 stock.

Congrats. That is a great looking guitar! Love the Cherry burst. I just bought my first PRS which is also a '97 CE 22 in Tortoise finish. I am pulling the Dragon I's though. they are great-sounding pickups. Just not the tone I'm looking for. I just purchased a set of OX4.

Yeah, I hear you. I did pull the Dragons from my '95 CU22 and replace them with Duncan Antiquitys. The neck Dragon is fairly vintage sounding. The bridge Dragon is not, but it's cool for really heavy styles. However, it doesn't get the Clapton with Cream tone I hear in my head.

I just got a set of the locking Phase 1 tuners for this '97 that someone apparently removed. So I'm going to put them in and keep it stock.
