This is true 99.9% of the time, excluding birds.Just dots on CEs.
They are. First thing I looked for.As long as the Dragon 1's are there, you're gold!
That's a great deal, and a great top! I'd be curious to see what the pickup cavities say, they should have the serial number and neck carve info. I have seen cases where the pickup cavity SN does not match the neck plate. As mentioned, the logo and 2-piece bridge tend to peg it at post 95. Looks like Dragon I's, which were used till 97 or so, and generally preferred over the II's. Very desirable specs.
Thank you. I think it was a great purchase. And I'll be playing it! I'm going to clean it up a bit but leave it bone stock. To be honest, I've never seen a CE22 that old. I had a CE24 from that era but not a CE22. I like the sound of the neck pickup much more on a 22 fret guitar.Nice score. I would have bought it for that price as well. IMHO, it is worth every penny and then some.
I much prefer the CE22 over the 24. I never ran across one that I really liked or I would have owned one. I have seen relatively few of the CE22s.Thank you. I think it was a great purchase. I agree. I don't have any 24 fret guitars because the 23rd and 24th fret are where the neck pickup sounds best...and I use my neck pickup alot!I much prefer the CE22 over the 24. I never ran across one that I really liked or I would have owned one. I have seen relatively few of the CE22s.
Bummer. But I wasn't expecting it to.I don't think CEs had Brazilian rosewood fret boards.
This is correct. Some have claimed, through the years, that their CE had a Braz board, but I believe this is wrong. I believe I read in the PRS book, or somewhere, that no CE was ever made with a Braz board. Now watch there be a one-off special build somewhere that has one...I don't think CEs had Brazilian rosewood fret boards.
I died on a hill years back with the whole moons vs. dots thing on CEs.This is correct. Some have claimed, through the years, that their CE had a Braz board, but I believe this is wrong. This CE22 has pearl dots. Not moons. My '95 CU22 does have moons. My '02 CU22 has birds.I died on a hill years back with the whole moons vs. dots thing on CEs.
Then years later I saw more than one CE with moons. Fortunately nobody else was around to prove I was wrong, but now I always leave room for possibilities.
I have 3 24 fret guitars. I am trying to talk myself into thinning the collection down and these three are in the top part of the list to let go of. One is a PRS. Another one is a custom built Suhr Modern with a set neck. It is a fantastic guitar but I just don't play the 24 fret models. The third is an old Hamer Diablo with a reverse headstock from the early 90's.I much prefer the CE22 over the 24. I never ran across one that I really liked or I would have owned one. I have seen relatively few of the CE22s.
I argued a bit with a guy a few years ago that was selling a CE with Brazilian board. This is correct. My 1997 ce22 has super tight grain on the fret board. If it was darker I'd swear it was ebony.Bummer. But I wasn't expecting it to.
