July Guitar Player mag feature on my little brother

Guitar Player magazine did a feature on my brother Jon (www.jondurant.com) which appears in this month's July issue. Way to go, JD! I'd provide a link, but GP doesn't publish online until well after the print date, if at all.

Of interest to this group: Jon plays PRS guitars pretty much exclusively.

The reason for GP's interest is Jon's new record, which is a duet with Colin Edwin. (Porcupine Tree bassist) Colin played on Jon's last record as well, and that resulted in a full collaborative effort this time around. Yeah, I like the record a lot and highly recommend it!

JD has known the people @ GP for ages. He used to work for Lexicon back in the '90s as a product specialist and he got to know them then. I went to a GP-sponsored guitar show in NYC in 1992 -- remember when GP had those "NAMM for civilians" shows? -- which is where I met PRSH for the first time. He and Jon were friends; Jon would loan PRS Lexicon gear for their booth and vice-versa. Jon got a wonderful "artist" guitar out of that arrangement, a really nice root beer colored Custom that was his main guitar for several years, until JD and I started playing Klein electrics.

Do you and he get to play together? That'd have to be a pretty cool time!

We had a band together in the early 80s. Very skinny-tie-Police-and-Joe-Jackson oriented. Pretty much all covers although we had a fusiony spinoff project that did some originals but never turned into anything.

For some rehearsals and gigs in 2010, JD and I had a spinoff of my Trio where we did a bunch of my tunes and some of his and some tunes by people like Leni Stern and Bill Frisell (all instrumental). Sadly, that group ceased to exist when I started living in KY full-time.

It's actually very hard work for us to play together. It doesn't come naturally to us at all.

Interesting stories!

A lot of my tracks were mixed on the Lexicon Opus at GTN in the Detroit area. Your brother probably was involved in that deal. Lexicon were on the cutting edge at that time. Their Opus is long gone, but it was a beautiful machine. I still think the 480 is a great sounding piece of gear.
