I can't believe it. I have been listening and seeing them live since Hell Awaits. This is a great loss to the metal community and the band

I started listening to Slayer as a way to rebel against my punk and new wave friends in high school. I would put on Reign in Blood and watch them recoil in distaste when Tom hit that scream in Angel of Death and get a sadistic pleasure out of upsetting the small group of us "alternative" kids.

When Seasons in the Abyss came out... I spent an entire year listening to nothing but Slayer. They were the first "metal" band I ever truly loved, and to this day if I feel the need to listen to distorted guitar, only Slayer will do. Jeff was the best, South of Heaven and particularly the riff to that song is in encoded in my D.N.A.

I feel you, man. When I was like 10 years old, I was listening to Poison, Def Leppard, etc. Then I found Megadeth. Once I had made that discovery, Megadeth opened the doors to the likes of Anthrax and Slayer. Hell, my sophomore year of high school, I wore a Slayer t-shirt to picture day. I love Megadeth for the complexity. I love Slayer for the sheer speed and aggression. Jeff Hanneman was the musical mind behind Slayer. I don't think they'll ever be the same... :bawling:

But enough of that. Thank you, Jeff, for helping me understand that a fast and tight right hand is just as important as a fast and flashy left. Wherever you are now, I'm sure you're at peace. Thanks for all that you gave to us. Cheers, mate.
