You ever have a dream where you're jamming with your guitar heros? Last nights was John Mayer for me.

I started to enjoy Him after he joined the Grateful Dead guys, really impressed at his effort!

In the dream: he was going to kick me out of the elevator but I said something (don't know what) that got his interest until we got to wherever. Parting ways I saw some suspicious characters and ended up thwarting Jon. in being kidnapped. As a thanks we went to jam at a Guitar center.

Sitting on stools getting ready I noticed my guitar strap was under the foot of the stool and I tried to free it, which caused me to fall back and do a backwards somersault holding the guitar and freeing the strap. John looked panicked them grinned as I stuck the landing.

Then the stool fell over and went down the stairs, heard him say "oh no" and the stool stopped just before it landed on a...JM Super Eagle (the first one) laying on the floor...and woke up.

In my dreams I never get to do the actual jam...only the weird lead up to the jam then I wake up. Always!

Thanks doctor...I fell better now.

Lol if you're married your wife probably got kicked a few times.

I was just thinking about heroes this morning, I don't really have any. I grew up playing piano, trumpet and violin (in youth symphony). I listened to classic rock, Christian rock, oldies, etc so there was influence but I was focused on violin mostly.

Now that I'm getting a guitar for my 30th birthday I guess I'm listening to music differently with a particular interest in the guitar.

It was so hard to pick a guitar because every salesman would ask, "Who's your hero?" Or "What sound are you going after?" I like everything, so I thought I'd go for something as versatile as possible and good quality as I can afford, and ended up naturally with an SE Custom 24. It arrives in 3 days.... can't wait!

How many years have I jammed along with my heroes? Sheesh, BB King Live at the Regal? Muddy Waters Hard Again? On and on....

But, I lucked into a great gig a few years ago playing with someone who's CD I had purchased at least thirty years before. She's not a great guitar player, but is an incredible writer and singer! She was also in a band that was the best selling Artist for Alligator Records for ten years or so.

We played a bunch fo local/regiaonl one off gigs. Then we hit a few small 'mini-tours', two or three gigs driving a few hours between each, kinda thing. We did a Blues Festival during one little mini-tour. I got invited to go hang out with a bunch of the touring folks, they were having a jam up in one of the hotel rooms. My playing partner, her friend and my wife didn't want to go.... So, I had to pass up the opportunity.

A few months later we went to Memphis to promote her CD for the Blues Awards the following year. My wife and I get a call on our way to pick up my playing partner from the airport asking if it'll be okay for us to give her friend a ride to his hotel. I wait in the car while my wife goes in to meet our party... Who walks out? Bob Margolin. I was kinda speechless. I mean, he played with Muddy Waters for like ten years. He's on so many of the songs in my iTunes! It's Bob F'ing Margolin!!!! I was hoping to get some jamming in in Memphis, but never did. I know there was some going on... I was just right on the outside.... Scratching at the door. LOL

Oh, I also lucked into dinner with Kirk Fletcher while I was there... He was sitting at the table next to us (literally separated by about a foot) the night of the Blues Awards by himself. Next thing I knew we were chatting like old buddies. What an incredibly nice guy! Just a really nice human being!

I'm sure being there with my playing partner, who everyone knew, made it easy enough for Kirk not to be too nervous with me. Margolin just laughed at me... (good naturedly!!!) He made fun of me for being kinda start struck. Hopefully, I'll get some kind of opportunities like that again some day.

The more I think about it, man if I could jam with Alex Lifeson or Mark Knopfler....wow. I gotta practice.

I actually had that dream come true. I’m more of a rock genre player, but I’m a fan of Diamond Rio, and Jimmy Olander (I’m not even in the same universe close to being worthy  ) is an extraordinary guitarist. Many moons ago:

^ I think I peed my pants a little.

A little? Or was this right at the beginning, before you went full-Alnus?

I've never dreamt about jamming with one of my heroes. But, I did get to fondle one of Alex's guitars. Way better than a dream!

I've had dreams of playing with Kiss, one of singing with Suzi Quatro (definitely a dream because I am not a singer).

The one that really stands out is the dream I had where I played with Frank Zappa. I clearly remember the songs - "Little House I Used To Live In" and "T'Mershi Duween". And I remember that I could clearly hear the music and how I was playing. Here's the thing - not only are neither of those songs among my favorite Zappa tunes, I don't think I could identify them if you played them for me (I'm not great with titles anymore, especially instrumentals). So I have no idea if the song we were playing was actually one of those two. But it was fun while it lasted!

Keith Urban is my wife’s favourite musician and one night I dreamed I was the one he pulled from the audience to come on stage. As I wondered what to do, I made up a song to cover my indecisiveness. In real life, I ran to get a pen and paper and scribbled it down - it was pretty messy because I left the lights on and tried not to wake up completely.
