So I took my first PRS to rehearsal yesterday. We decided we were going to cover a song in standard tuning and I thought...time to take ole blue out for a spin.
Back story is I sort of retired this guitar from gigs. I play it at home a lot and keep it in standard tuning(we play in drop C). I also use it in the studio from time to time for overdubs.
The guitar in question is a '96 custom 22 in whale blue. Turns 20 this year! I've told the story a bunch, but this is the "Star Wars guitar"...inadvertently paid for by my dad by me selling off my collection of Star Wars toys that he bought me when I was a kid. It's got a ton of sentimental value. But aside from that, it's got the mojo. That special something you can't put your finger on. It's what I'd call a "rocket". One of those guitars that rings for FOREVER. Super resonant...lively...notes jump off the fretboard.
So I get to rehearsal, plug it in and it almost took me by surprise. I haven't let this baby rip at loud band volume in a long time. It was beautiful. It was almost like NGD. I mean all of it's great qualities are noticeable even playing it unplugged, but cranking it up was a religious experience. It was great to get reacquainted with a dear, old friend.
