It was a good day!

Last Saturday my 8 year old daughter walks in my music room with the Hello Kitty Squire strat I bought her last Christmas.

That guitar was as much a "room decoration" as musical instrument. But my 23yo Son (who is a musician in his own right) and I take great joy in pulling that guitar out and rocking out on it just for the comedy factor! Especailly is somebody is over to jam! :laugh:

So I'm playing my new Paul's and she says "Dad, can you teach me to play this?" I immediately stopped what I was doing - "Yes, YES I can, sit down here..." I unplugged the Paul's and pugged in the KITTY - Tuned her up and off we went. Just started her off with some one finger chords...

TO MY SURPRISE - the next day she walked in "Can we play some more?" I pulled out a Champ 600 ( best $100 amp ever! ) and plugged her in, left my rig up so we could play together...

It was a good day!

My son asked me tonight if I could teach him to play, so I know how happy you feel. We tried this once before, about two years ago, so I hope it becomes more regular.

It is a wonderful feeling when you can sit down with your kids and teach them as well as play together . My 14 year old daughter has been playing for 4 years now and any chance we get to jam together, I jump on it.

It may even become cool even cooler when you teach them a scale and they use that for their own creation. Sometimes the teacher becomes the pupil.....

Oh yes, I started teaching my 9 year old drums a year ago. He kind of lost interest for a whille but I was working on "message in a bottle" last week and he came in to ask me what I was working on. When I played the police CD he asked me to burn him a copy because he liked it. Now we are working on simplified copeland patterns. I just love it.

Cool! Drums are fun for kids!

My girl has been playing drums for about a year. She was the driver for me to augment the acoustic kit at home and with an E-kit so she could play whenever she wanted. She can play a basic rock beat or two ;-) The guitar took me by surprise.... I decided with my Son and have carried on with my daughter - I just provide opportunity, I let them pick .... She taking piano again when school starts.

It is satisfying to watch my son discover hidden talents. I could tell by age 4 that he had "it" but like rango I'm not pushing him towards music. He has my inability to do anything atheletic, poor kid!

This is one of my proudest moments, playing a gig with my son a few years ago! He is now 16 (and taller than me!) and unfortunately doesn't play anymore because he is so involved in sports. Maybe one day he will pick it up again but it was certainly a rewarding and memorable time.

My daughter is about to turn 1 and I already know she's going to play music. She can't walk yet but she dances (sitting down) any time she hears music and anything she can beat on that makes a sound, she'll just hit it over and over with this big smile on her face.
