Is Rock Dead?

Someone at another forum recently posted a video of a band I'd not heard before, the Linda Lindas, made up of four very young girls. If kids are still doing this, then no, it's alive.

Rock isn't dead its to taste and not mainstream any more. Check out the KEXP YouTube channel. There are still rockers out there!

Was thinking about my ultimate living rock band today:

Dino Jelusick, vocals
Nuno Bettencourt, guitar
Paul Gilbert, guitar
Billy Sheehan, bass
Mike Portnoy, drums

And everyone of those guys can sing backup.

If I’m adding keys, Jordan Rudess.
You, Sir, are a man of culture and taste.

He's in love with rock and roll world
He's in love with getting stoned world
He's in love with Janie Jones' world
He don't like his borin' job, no
He's in love with rock and roll world
He's in love with getting stoned world
He's in love with Janie Jones' world
He don't like his borin' job, no
And he knows what he got to do
He knows he's gonna have fun with you
You lucky lady
And he knows when the evenin' comes
When his job is done, he'll be over in his car for you
He's in love with rock and roll world
He's in love with getting stoned world
He's in love with Janie Jones' world
He don't like his borin' job, no
In the in tray lots of work
But the boss at the firm always thinks he shirks
But he's just like everyone, he got a Ford Cortina
That just won't run without fuel
Fill her up, Jacko

He don't like his borin' job, no
And the invoice, it don't quite fit
No payola in his alphabetical file
Except for the government, man
He's just gonna really tell the boss
He's gonna really let him know exactly how he feels
It's pretty bad
He's in love with rock and roll world
He's in love with getting stoned world
He's in love with Janie Jones' world
He don't like his borin' job, no
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Let them know
Let them know, oh-oh-oh

sure but what’s so terrible about new boots?

For me, rock has always been kids music. When I was a kid I loved it and I still like the rock I grew up with, but don't like much new stuff. It doesn't speak to me. It's for THIS generation not MY generation and that's how it should be.

Rock music is for rebellious kids, that angry phase we all go through starting at about 14 or 15 when we think our parents are morons and just not with it.

Most people grow out of being a rebellious kid and if you're a musician you expand your horizons and start listening to all kinds of music.

But I know I'm getting old when I can't read the writing on new effects pedals anymore! And I can't.

I have to put removable tape on all of them and then write in: VOLUME, DRIVE, TONE with a SHARPIE so I know what the knob does.

This song proves rock is not dead as "the media" says. I've got to see the reformed Pixies sometime!
