Is my Custom 50 redundant?

I’ve been blessed the past couple of years to come across some nice deals on amps. I’ve landed an HXDA 50, Archon 50 (USA), DG 30, and Custom 50. The HXDA is my go to for vintage tone, and the Archon gives me the modern tones I’m looking for. I love the DG30’s clean tone. With those 3, I don’t play the Custom 50 often, but when I do I am always impressed with the tones that I get. I’ve been thinking about trying to get down to 3 amps, or even pursuing a JMod in place of the Custom 50. Anyone have any thoughts or insight on the JMod in comparison to the Custom, and other amps for that matter?

Perhaps slightly redundant with the Archon you have. I love my C50, it has a great clean channel and the lead channel fills a unique sonic space, and especially interesting sound now that I paired it with some Alnico Celestions.

I’ve been thinking about trying to get down to 3 amps, or even pursuing a JMod in place of the Custom 50. Anyone have any thoughts or insight on the JMod in comparison to the Custom, and other amps for that matter?

My only thought on the JMod is that I should have jumped on one while PRS was still making them.

Based on the demos I thought it had a lot of potential. I'm so glad I have the HXDA and DG30. I kinda missed the boat on that one.

I famously love the Archon and I had a Custom 50 as well. I traded it for a Bogner ATMA. I LOVE the ATMA, but wish I hadn’t sold the Custom 50. I really liked both channels of the C50 but preferred the gain channel of the Archon. When I traded it, the guy contacted me a few days after he got it and said that he played it a few days and really liked it. Then he did a routine check of the bias and found that it was WAY off and the two tubes weren’t matched. He said he first biased it, and it sounded much better. Tighter, more defined, etc. Then he replaced the power tubes with a matched set, did the bias again and it was even better. I think he contacted me about 5 times after that, all telling me how much he loved the amp, and that it replaced his SLO as his #1, and all this stuff. Needless to say, I had sellers remorse and wanted to get it back ever since then.

I'd keep any Sewell amp , I love my DG30 and Blue Sierra 50, been looking at a Dallas 50 1x12 to gig .

I definitely prefer the Archon’s gain channel, and I don’t dislike the Custom 50s. I think that is what makes the idea difficult. Part of me recognizes that it gets little playing time next to the HxDa, DG30, and Archon. The other part of me still likes the tone I get when I do play it.

For the JMod, I’m definitely curious about it, and then I ask myself if it will be good enough to get more rotation than the Custom 50. I wish I knew more about the JMod. Or, maybe I need a bigger room.

Yes, but with pricing that dictated that if it was going to survive it blow away the TGP crowd, and get “elite status” word of mouth… And it didn’t.
