I have a Standard 22 from '16 with #7 pups that sound ok but my standard 22 with jb/59 from '21 sounds slightly more alive tbh...is it worth changing?? The 7s are def serviceable...thoughts??

Only you can decide that
Everyone of us has a different sound that they enjoy
What I like you may not like
So the real question is "What would I replace them with to get nearer to my Ideal Tone?"

Yes worth it, I think the newer import version pickups are better quality (from reading what users say here & elsewhere) but my S2 SC is similar age to yours and every new set of pickups has been better than the stock ones. Have had different sets from SD and Bareknuckles.
Can buy second hand and flip for similar price for helping test tones in your guitar.

I had the #7s set in my Standards 22 too. They were good. But, I needed the guitar to be something else. So, I had to change the pickups to my liking and I love it. So, I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

Pickup changes are relatively easy, and reversible. Why not try it if you might be happier with the sound? Worst case scenario is you don’t like it better, and you change back. Best case is that you have a new main guitar!
