OK, humor me for a minute folks, I had a real moment of revelation recently.

So I'm sitting there watching the Niners game and on comes this Fedex commercial with Drew Brees. His car broke down and and he knocks on some guy's door to ask for a ride to the stadium, the guy (who's a fan) would love to take him but he can't, so Drew asks his next door neighbor who says "Sure, I hope you like Jazz Fusion...................scoobie wah!!"
Drew and the fan look at each other like their mother in law showed up with that casserole that everybody hates. It was a real humiliating kick in the crotch:confused: to a cat like me that always revered McLaughlin, DiMeola, Weather Report, etc., but it made me take a hard look at the radio stations programmed in my car stereo.

A couple jazz stations, an old skool R&B, an Alt, and a CLASSIC ROCK (That I admit I listen to much more than the Alt/Indie station). Flipping between the two the difference is stark and immediately noticeable, the drummers, guitar ad lib, and almost completely different arranging of classic rock made me hear it as a completely different music form, although in the market Alternative is under the umbrella of "ROCK" just like Classic Rock.

So what do you say? Is Alternative still rock and not re-hashed Disco music? ....but more importantly, IS CLASSIC ROCK CONSIDERED "OLDIES"?

How odd will it seem when I am in the old folks home rocking out to Priest and Maiden.

I will be banging on your f¥ckin’ wall.

“Hey, are those two old men actually fighting?”

“Don’t worry, neither of them can let go of their walkers or they’ll fall down. So they can’t actually hit each other.”

“Fun to watch them circle each other with the walkers while they yell, though.”

Hahaha... "re-hashed disco music"... That made my day :-D
In my mind it is re-hashed disco music, just didn't think of it in those terms before :-) But I can certainly respect if somebody else likes it (I guess SOMEONE must?? ;-))

I'm sure it is, by some. But who cares? There's real talent, direction and musicality in those ol' songs that shine through in a way that much of the modern music just can't. That's my take on it at least. Then again, the classic stuff we still listen to today is what has stood the test of time. I'm sure there was a bunch of horrible crap in the old days as well, we just don't hear it much today. Anyway, what makes the classic stuff great will continue to attract new young people so long as they are exposed to it. I'm not concerned either way :-)

Yea, I wrote a techno pop thing, (just a backing track), and it get's more plays on my Soundcloud than most of my other stuff. I don't even care for it but like you said "somebody must like it".o_O

As for "crap", there definitely is some classic crap too.

I guess I should just go hang out with "Jazz Fusion" dude................"scoobie...wah"

Classic rock is basically 30-40 years old now - what big band music was to people around my age. Early hip-hop and grunge are about 20-25 years old - what the oldies stations were to that same group. I've bought 30th and 40th anniversary editions of albums I bought when they were first released.

I'm old...

Put it this way...

I think a lot of classic rock is now older than the 50s/60s "oldies" were when my father was listening to them.

And have you looked at all the old men on the covers of the guitar magazines anymore?

That said I've seen a lot of Guns 'n' Roses and AC/DC shirts at the gym on people who are way too young to have heard those albums when they were new. So I have some hope that the electric guitar isn't going the way of the accordion. So far...

I've been buying those 30th and 40th Anni editons too. Most of them for the 4th or 5th time. Album, cassette, cd, MP3 and Anniversary.

8-tracks, son. 8-tracks.

I still have a player. Keep planning to dig it out and hook it up.

Tragically, it seems I may have lost my car 8-track player - I didn't see it at my parents' house the last time I looked.

My local classic rock station plays Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, White Zombie...
That’s very strange... none of those are “classic rock” and only one of then stands a chance of ever being “classic rock.”:confused:

You've got me by a couple of years. Never had the pleasure of 8 tracks. I don't think I ever listened to one.
