Introduce yourself!

Greetings.

I'm a retired from work dude, and I play some guitar.

I began guitar dabbling in 1980 with a sad Ibanez classical guitar, and a so-so Yamaha Strat-like object. I eventually dabbled into an Aria Pro II Custom ZZ set-neck Explorer-shaped object in '86, also the same time I began my career that I would retire from. Long work hours, coupled with the onset of adult responsibilities, the Aria was barely touched for years to come.

Fast forward to the end of 2020, I retire and then reassert the guitar into my life. I enjoy playing, but really love setup and maintenance. I find inspiration from many guitarists, but two of them standout for me; Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robbie Blunt.

Other than that, I enjoy photography, astronomy and love my cats....and the wife, too.

I'd add motorcycle riding, sport V-twin fanatic, but that ship sailed years ago with a disagreement with a telephone pole on a canyon road...

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking with it. I'd post a then-and-now pics of this geezer, but don't know if that's kosher.

So, thanks for having me.

Regards,

J

Welcome aboard!
Posting photos is always encouraged HERE's how to post 'em~
As a matter of fact there's an entire thread dedicated to photography in general: "Photos, Let's See 'Em"

Also, welcome to the Retired Club!
Since retirement, I too have returned to the guitar and discovered a handful of resources you might enjoy:

- TrueFire is an on-line instructional platform that is great for exploring new things, inspiration, and simple guitar enjoyment. I purchased the yearly membership just to try it out, and find it to be the best "subscription" service around. Look around and you'll find a bunch of discount codes that save you a bit of money.

- HomeSkoolin' is a Youtube channel of Tom Bukovac, a Nashville studio guy who played in Joe Walsh's touring band among MANY others. It's a great resource for inspiration, and he shares a bunch of playing tips and insights. He's serious vintage guitar guy, and it's fun seeing all the old guitars/amps actually being played.

- Five Watt World "Getting the most music from the least gear" is the tag line with Kieth Williams. Somewhat eclectic, but lots of great videos. Just yesterday he published a "History of the PRS SE" which you might enjoy. He also was a V-twin motorcycle guy, so that pops up from time to time.

Speaking of motorcycles, I've got to get out for a spin on my parallel twin while the weather's still nice. Then back home to spend some time in front of my new amp :D

Hope you find something useful here~ Cheers!

Welcome SocaliJ! As Monahan said, pictures always good (just don't post guitars from other manufacturers, those are not good) ;~)) Sounds like you have solid life (solid as a telephone pole on a canyon road) and are enjoying retirement, congrats!!

Too late, I can always remove the offensive non-PRS pic I posted elsewhere.

Crap, I'm gonna get banned two days in, for crimes against this community.

I know, I viewed that post with that non PRS pic after I had written this (you may have noticed that I did not "Like" that post, but it is a great looking guitar)! Although you will not get banned, it is frowned upon by the host and some of it's members ;~)) I think you are safe, but watch your step Mister!! I have offended as well, but have found the way after seeing the light!!!

I have removed the offensive image of my **** **** *****, in hopes of avoiding both a public flogging and the ignominy of being branded with the Scarlet Letters...whew!

Was gonna post and then-and-now pics of me playing, but these guitars I'm playing we do not speak of. So, I'll play it safe with an older self portrait.

Cheers folks,

Damn, and I was so looking forward to the public flogging! I am not an admin or anything, so you can just ignore me on this stuff, but I view shots of folk in action playing are an exception to the rule when it comes to posting pix that have "other" guitars. But that is just me, not speaking for others or admin ;~)) Cool pic Ace!!!

Hello there! I just joined this forum today after I found it while searching for what kind of strings to get for my PRS SE Soapbar II bought in August of 2023 while I was supposed to be looking for and researching my first acoustic. I wasn't even planning on buying anything, just wanted to try a few out for size. I really, really did try to find an acoustic at one of the numerous Guitar Centers in Michigan that year but being very new to learning guitar (started in January last year) I knew next to nothing about anything, could barely play a few chords with any decency and no songs whatsoever.

So, while rather dejectedly walking back through the store, I looked around at the electrics (I was practicing on a Fender Bullet Squire I picked up on Black Friday at Amazon in 2022 which I didn't really like the tone of), and this dark red guitar in the used gear section caught my eye. I managed to get the lone worker to plug it into an amp (like I said, I knew next to nothing and was afraid I'd blow something up) and from the moment I touched the strings I was in LOVE. I couldn't play a dang thing other than a few random chords and I was blown away. I called my husband strummed a few for him and he was impressed, not easy to do when money is involved. lol I had heard the name PRS before but knew next to nothing, I didn't even know if this was a good value. No matter, it went home with me, and I've been practicing with it ever since, my poor old Squier, used barely 6-7 months unceremoniously cast aside.

As for me, I'm a retired mechanical engineer from the aerospace industry, live in the northern part of Michigan's "mitten" with aforementioned husband, at this very moment practicing his bass, and 2 labrador retrievers, one of dubious parentage who, also at this very moment, is begging to be fed early.

My avatar is of my lovely PRS, which the label at GC claimed was "custom", I assume because of the pickguard? I have no other info other than the serial number tells me she was built in Korea in 2003.

But at this point in my guitar journey, I can at least say I play a little guitar now, though I am strictly rhythm, I can't yet make it cry or sing. 😇

It's only polite to introduce ones self

And so I will.
I'll leave the name and job stuff for the sig.
I bought my first PRS used in 1988 or so, a Std24. I had heard of these, and got lucky enough to find one. Wish I still had it, but I sold it to buy a Super 400...
I play Klein guitars a lot. I have three. I know Lorenzo German pretty well. (Please, if you're one of his former customers, don't ask me to help you get your guitar that you ordered way back there, I have one on order too.). I try to keep my GAS disease under control, but guitars are tax write offs for me, so it's pretty easy to justify them.
After years of looking at them again, I bought a Hollowbody Spruce from Brian Meader when he was still at Washington Music Center near DC, three years ago. Then I bought a Studio from him last year. I love that too. It sounds different, and I like that. I want a P22.
I play jazz. Not much rock and roll. But I do like to get a variety of sounds from a guitar, and these do it.
I really admire PRSh's drive to make a really good instrument. I've never met him, but I'd like to. He seems to be just a bit obsessed about making things as good as he can, and I really like that.
My job is in the Maritime provinces of Canada, and there's not much available. I'd like to try one of the new amps, but there aren't any near me there.
Guitars are more fun than just about anything else.
I'm in.

Hello to everyone,I'm coming from Vienna, central Europe.Im a big fan of SE line from PRS.I am 46 years old ( yes ,that old) and I've been playing guitar since I was 10 years old. Thanks for having me at your house,🎶🎶🎶

Newbie up on 3! Bruce here in beautiful Cincinnati, left hander who joined the PRS family earlier this year with an SE Custom. What a wonderful instrument! Definitely a Strat guy but the shorter scale length on the SE is great as are the buckers with coil tap. Love to get maybe an S2 in a lefty but no complaints here. Thanks for having me.

Welcome leftyblues!
Thanks for the avatar.;):)

Once again, welcome.
I'm also an older (67 in a week) retired dood myself. Picked up the PRS bug in 2019 and made the plunge a year later in the spring of 2020. The crew here is nothing short of amazing, and they treated me with understanding and kindness right from the get go. Other places (even some dedicated to our resident/favorite brand) are not so forgiving on certain fronts so that is very honorable IMO. I mean if they can accept a doofus like me...you are a shoe-in for guru-like status! ;) 😂

Welllllll, that was actually for SoCaliJ but as I missed so many newcomers in recent days, the welcome mat is out for everyone that has arrived just recently.😁 I've been retahreded for almost exactly two years now and it is a terrific lifestyle!🤟

Hello everyone, I recently purchased PRS Core 24 Custom in Purple Mist, so I decided to join this lovely community(even though I already have 2021 Silver Sky USA in Golden Mesa).
My name is Goran, 29 years old, owner of several Gibson Les Pauls , Gibson Southern Jumbo and now 2 PRS-s :D
