Incoming…..SE

As usual I was surfing on some downtime for a few minutes and found what I think is a good deal on an SE I have wanted, will use it as a beater or to leave in NH to have a guitar to play when I go up. Not sure of the year but it is an SE EG hard tail, looks to be original and in OK condition, for only 300 bucks with the gig bag. I am not worried about the cosmetics too much for its intended purpose. anyone else have one and what are your thoughts? The stock pickups do the trick ok?

yours a trem or hard tail? what is the neck like on these, Strat thin or thicker? Did they differ year to year?

Mine’s a trem, and in all fairness I think I may have replaced the SE team with an unplated Mann 2000 NOS before I bought another DC3.

Neck profile on these are W/F and I think they always were. Mine is also HSS, the bucker sucks but the singles are fine.

Congrats, the stoptail EG is a great sounding/playing axe for sure. Back when I was gigging mine I found that all 5 pickup positions were really useful and it seemed to stay in tune all night. Hope you get a good one!

I wonder about modding it, it was so cheap I can spend some and still be on the right side of things. Locking tuners are a must, if for nothing other than easy string changes. A bridge Hot Rails or JB jr is a must for it, anything Else I might find necessary? New nut also is a must now that I think of it, because it is cheap and easy, and I would always wonder ‘what if….’

is there a Source for aftermarket pickguards for these?

If yours came from Maryland, it may have been a friend’s old guitar. He didn’t like the pickups. Everybody else LOVED the sound of them. I had one and put in a TBX tone control. In the center detente, it bypasses the tone control altogether. Mine was great, but I sold it to a lucky SOB so I could buy my DC3.
