In praise of my Paul's Guitar...

It's coming up on a year since I purchased my first PRS - a 2020 Paul's Guitar. Ordered it on Dec. 2, 2020. I'm no pro, but I'm not exactly a rookie either. I'm 70 years old, and I've been playing the guitar since I was 9 or 10. I've owned too many guitars to remember over the years, and I currently own several very nice guitars including a beautiful Les Paul R8. But my PRS Paul's Guitar is the one I play 99 percent of the time.

The PG is as perfect as a guitar can possibly be. Every time I pick it up, I marvel at the quality and craftsmanship, the playability... and the tone! OMG, these TCI pickups are truly amazing. The single coil and humbucker sounds are perfect to my ears.

I now own 2 PRS guitars, having bought a used SE Hollow Body II Piezo several months ago. It's a fine guitar in its own right. But the Paul's Guitar is my number one, by a long shot.

At my age, I'm pretty much done buying guitars. In fact, in the coming years as I get older I'll be selling them off. But I guarantee you, my Paul's Guitar will be the last to go.

Anyone else love their PG?

I’m looking around for one myself so it’s good to hear people so happy with them. One question of key importance to me (as I know it sounds good!) - does it balance as well on the leg for a sit down player as a Strat does? I wish I could find one locally to try first. Thanks for any feedback and take care.

Hey Wolfhound... My Strat and my PG are for all practical purposes identical in terms of balance on the knee. Having said that, they are nearly identical in weight too... 6 lb. 11 oz. and 7 lb. 1 oz. respectively. So in your case, you might want to take the weight into consideration. It's not something that I typically look at, but I've seen PGs advertised as heavy as 8 lbs. Perhaps there would be a difference in the way they balance if there were a large difference in weight.

For what it's worth, I also have a couple Les Pauls which are, of course body heavy, and tend to want to fall off the right side of my knee. My SG on the other hand is neck heavy and tends to fall to the left side.

I hope my experience is helpful. Good luck in your search!

Thank you for this thoughtful and very helpful reply - much appreciated! Your sensibilities for guitar’s gravitational tendencies sound identical to mine - all of my Strats (incl. Silver Sky) balance perfectly and I never think about them but my LP style guitar just always wants to head for the floor. It’s very distracting but to be fair, I haven’t played it intensively enough to get used to it. I had an SG that was definitely a headstock diver and while it didn’t really bother me, I gave it to my brother who also puts it far better use then I! My Strats range from 7 to 7.75 pounds and all feel great so given your comments, any PH ought to fit the bill. Thanks again!

I am a “very seasoned” (better known as old) player too. Over the 60 years I have played I have owned, or played, just about every type/model of guitar made by the major manufacturers. I only recently bought my first PRS guitar in 2020, which was a SE Paul’s Guitar. It was an amazing guitar given the price! This year my wife bought me a PRS Paul’s Guitar (the one shown as my avatar). It is without a doubt the highest quality, best sounding guitar that I own…including the 5 vintage guitars I own. I wish I had given PRS guitars a try many years ago. I highly recommend PRS guitars to my friends and fellow players!

Much applause from me given everything I have read in this thread. I have only had my PRS SE Paul's Guitar (Amber) and fallen in love with it. I have about 8 guitars to compare it to, I have some high-end electrics and the PRS SE Paul's Guitar is right up there.

Epiphone - Casino Coupe

Fender American Original '50's Stratocaster White Blonde

Fender American Performer Telecaster Vintage White

Fender American Pro Sienna Sunburst

Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s Electric Guitar - Unburst

Gretsch G5420TG-OS 50S LTD

Squier Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster - Butterscotch Blonde

I love both the core and SE versions. Fantastic instruments, though I must say...the SE is probably the far better value. The core pickups are brilliant, butyou can drop in some aftermarket things that get you damn close on the SE. On mine, I ended up going with a BK Abraxas in the bridge and a Gibson 498 in the neck.

That would be Fire Red and 2021, I think!
I thought it had to be, but the red seems to be much rarer than the other colors, and the others I've seen have been from singularly bad Reverb ads, so I don't have much by way of comparison - and yours looks less redly fiery than those.

I've had experience with the color - one core, assorted SEs - and seems like they're usually more saturated / vivid than yours. Is your pic true to life? I like yours; faced with a choice between it and the Fire Red I have in my mind's eye, I don't know which I'd choose. Assuming tone, playability, and condition were equal (and are they ever?), I'd probably decide on the basis of wood figure more than color.

Just curious.
