I'm just gonna leave this here...CR demo!

I wish I could find one to try out. I'd want to know about the neck shape and weight... But yeah, that p90 in the neck sounds freakin awesome. I love that 'pissed off' mini humbucker sound.

The neck and weight are, as far as I can tell, identical to those on other SE 245s from this year. Before I bought a CR, I couldn't find one but I saw a bunch of SE 245s at different dealers. I think older SE 245s may have a slightly slimmer neck, or maybe it's the Indonesian "Standards" that do - but all of the Korean 245s with the signature on the headstock that I tried felt like they had the same neck to me.

The neck is pretty chunky, particularly at the headstock end. It's one of those things where the first few times I picked it up I was like, "whoa" but once you've been playing for a few minutes it's not a big deal. If you have a strong preference for very slim necks, though, this is probably not the guitar for you.

I actually think the instrument has better balance than an S2 Singlecut - although I liked the neck shape on the S2 more. It's not a light guitar but the weight hasn't been an issue for me.

I like the configuration and the finish on those... very nice!

Gotta say that this old SE Soapy with 2 P90's rocks like a mutha too.... double the P90 yummyness.....

It’s funny how stuff comes full circle. In 1979, I bought my first electric guitar...a Les Paul Deluxe with mini humbuckers. Loved everything but the pickups (little did I know it really was the amp that sucked) so I had the bridge cavity routed for a full sized humbucker and dropped a Super Distortion in there (that was all there was besides a Bartolini or other such nonsense). For the next 30 years I swapped dozens of pickups until I got where I am now, a BurstBucker 3 and a PRS SE P-90 and thought it was so nerdy looking...something only a guitarist could love, and only a few at that. It’s also what my #1 guitar hero in ‘79 sported, Tom Scholz (back then, no one revealed their true gear nor were there tons of concert photos showing extreme detail). He had a Deluxe with a Super Distortion in the bridge and a P-90 in the neck, which I didn’t know until the late 90s. Now Chris Robinson reignites the format and makes it cool again. Maybe I could cook up a quick comparison between my SE245 with Antiquities and my LP?

As always, good read boggie! We are definitely from the same planet on the Tom Scholz thing! I knew about the MIT thing and his amazing talent and killer tone that nobody quite duplicated...I hate to admit this but when I'm asked who my guitar heros are...I forget Scholz!??? He would have to be on the high end of my top 5 of all time for sure!

I know CR said in the PRS video that he is a big Leslie West (Mountain) fan...and that was part of his reason he speced the SE P-90, he said he preferred it for a reason I can't recall. You are so right about the guitar nerd thing...it's not the coolest look to me, but I like to think of it like an old school Trans-Am with the hood removed and big blower sticking out of it! Sorry I had a redneck hot rodder moment...it happens...

As far as an SC245 comparo...DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! That would be really cool!

I'm gonna go ahead and say it out loud...that is KICK A$$...who else is gonna get a SC245 and have it pinstriped in the near future? This guy right here...that is all...

The weight was only thing that made this not the guitar for me. I knew I couldn't gig comfortably with it. But it sounds and plays beautifully and is awesome value for the money.

Cool story! Yes, do it.

I dont remember 1979 (I was an infant) but I recently got my hands on a guitar with the same mini humbuckers as yout Deluxe. I kinda like them but I wish they were more 'pissed off' sounding. Maybe I should consider putting a p-90 in the neck.

Play it thru a pissed off amp and you get something very similar. ;)

This is what I did with the bridge pup...

Nice! Does the One sound close to the Gibson?

I think your mini hum pup is hotter than mine. My pup has the black lil patent sticker on the back of it.... So it probably wont have as decent output as yours.

Somewhat, but old P-90s are hugely inconsistent. Mine is dark and very hot, which is a wonderful combination to combat the brittle topend of the typical soap bar. The idea behind getting a One was to build a Junior that I wasn’t afraid to gig.

You might be surprised. This one is pretty low output, which was off-putting back when I first got it. If I had a Marshall at the time, I probably would have kept the pickups and just turn up the gain.

Now, the One is hotrodded with winged tuners, a USA bridge, and some electronic trickery. The results are pretty bada$$ed, if I say so myself.
