After owning 18 guitars at one point I finally moved most of them...I kept
3 standard 22s
Vela
Se SAS for the bolt on feel...now I'm thinking if one comes in one will go...I don't need 3 standards but there's nothing better for the money out there lol...I also kept a P20e in black that I dig...sold my Taylor academy in favor of the P20!

Your right Greywolf very painful. I think it’s going to s*ck giving up driving when I get in my very golden years but I’m even more scared downsizing the guitar herd lol. I keep on telling myself I should give them away one by one to someone who needs and doesn’t have the ability to obtain at this point in there journey. It’s like trying to figure out who really needs, you don’t want to get burned but you want to truly pay it forward. The more I tell myself this and the more I put it out there holds me to what I feel is right in my particular situation. I’m fortunate to be very healthy and in my early 60’s but nothing is forever.

It Sounds Like Somebody Needs To Go Guitar Shopping...

I’m sub-20 guitars now, so I have actually downsized from my former numbers. Still, at 64, I’m less likely to use so many. Then again, I’m still gigging, so I’ve got an excuse, albeit a self-serving one.

I’ll probably sell a few amps and cabs this year, and think about guitars at a later time. Most times, attempts at intentional downsizing have resulted in more gear. I have to do it while I’m not watching.

My days are numbered , but I just enjoy playing them too much to get rid of too many. Having a weekely gig gives me an excuse.
I almost had one for each week , but I'm heading back to the shop to do some commisions so I'll likely sneak in a few for me..
I want to build a matching fretless guitar and bass set , I love Sarod and play slide a lot so don't need no stinkin frets, I gave my grandsons my old fretless J bass, so I'm down to only 1 .

🤣

I got down to 3 electrics and one acoustic. I may wind up with two, but I haven’t convinced myself yet.

So far I can’t seem to part with amps, but I only have four anyway. Maybe it’s a good thing they’re so inconvenient to pack and ship.

Of course, in my case the money burns a hole in my pocket and then I have to blow it on things like mics and preamps. So it’s not like I’m ever going sane.

I don’t think my age has any impact on how many guitars I’m likely to use. If anything, I have more time so can spread the love around more.
And really, I’ve averaged less than one new one a year lifetime, so there isn’t any cause for alarm.

The amps have been hard to get to selling and, as you mentioned, shipping is a pain and quite costly. I’ll likely start with putting some cabs on Craigslist to clear some space. I’ve got 8 tube amps currently (1 Fender, 2 PRS, 1 Vox, 4 Boogies) so I could likely sell a few and still be oversupplied. Lol

I suppose this is really where I am more than anything. It doesn’t bother me at all to have what I have, and I like the stuff. My music space isn’t small by comparison to most players I know (a bit over 400 sq ft), but I also keep road cases and PA gear there so it fills up quickly. If I needed to sell, I would, but it’s more making room. I don’t want to rent storage for an overly-blessed collection. I am working with some young musicians now and will be giving them some things to help them along. It’s not everyone’s solution, but I enjoy things like that more than just selling.
