...pretty soon he's going to want a glass of milk, a robe and slippers, a pipe and a hot toddy before bedtime...

For the last several years, my needs were simple. I ran one amp in the studio, and got pedals and accessories that worked with the one amp. Now, things have gotten more complicated, with both the HXDA and the DG30 on hand.

I feel in some ways that each amp needs its own dedicated pedals. For example, while I love the Fulldrive 3 with the HXDA, I'm not crazy about it with the DG. And the Eventide stuff just seems to go better with the DG than the HXDA, no doubt because it's a cleaner amp. Et cetera. Plus, I now need a high end ABY to run the two chains of pedals into their respective amps. And, of course, two cabs.

More cables, too. I can see this is going to be a lot of fun. But dang! It'll be a lot of work testing out additional gear, and an investment as well.

Les you should try the way huge pork loin with the dg 30 it's adjustable for clean and contour on the out side and it has two perimeter controls on the inside to fine tune your tone.its my favorite pedal that would be a good start, you may be pleasantly surprised

Oh, the first world problems we face. :)

I do understand and agree with the separate pedals. Of course, you may end up needing a DGT to go with that DG 30...I'm just sayin'.

I'll definitely check it out. I had a WH Swollen Pickle that was a powerful pedal, also very well made with a quiet switch. It was a little too modern sounding for the amp I was using it with at the time, but I respect what they did with it. Quality. I think Bonamassa uses the Pork Loin as well.

I also might check out an EP booster with the DG amp, I think DG uses one himself. I didn't care for it with the HXDA, but I think it'd work nicely with the DG.

Haha! Yes, I am that first world guy. ;)

The DGT is a phenomenal guitar, one of the coolest I've ever had the pleasure to play, but I'm good in the solid body department with the A-V and SC.

I've been thinking for a long time about a hollowbody thin-line similar to the now-discontinued NS-15, with a 2 piece bridge instead of the Floyd, and a carbon fiber strength rod in the neck instead of the adjustable metal rod. I'd have it trimmed out with an understated, modern look like Kingley's recent one. I think it'd be stellar.

But I have to see how the year progresses.

In my opinion for high end ABY pedals you should take a look here:

Thanks, they make great loopers, but the best ABYs (for me) right now are from Fulltone, because they have very high quality buffers that are switchable, silent switching, and switchable phase. I've tried one, and it's very good indeed.

I've used this one in the past, but I sold mine a few years ago:

I wasn't happy with the sound of my Radial stuff in the past. Had a couple of their DIs as well as some other studio equipment they made. All this is so personal, what one likes, etc., so it's very subjective.

Like a JA-15 (minus the cf truss rod desire)? Every time I play a JA, I walk out trying to figure out if I can get any money for my appendix! So far, no takers...

Similar, but a little different. I'd like a thinner body, and I've been thinking about whether to go with a maple or spruce top. Each has its undeniable charms!

But I hear ya on selling organs! ;)

After some experimenting with settings, I got a good sound between the Fulldrive 3 and the DG30! Hooray! One less thing to worry about.

But I still need....um....this, this, this, this, this, and this... ;)

It never hurts to check out the pedalboard of the guy who helped design the amp. I went to DG's website, and sure enough, he had shots and comments on the pedalboard he's been working with. I know these things are always in a state of flux with most players. Nonetheless, I got some ideas.

DG put one of his Boss pedals first in the chain to take advantage of its buffer. The only Boss pedal I have is my TU-3, and I had it in a true bypass looper because I was more concerned about tone suck than signal integrity. Anyway, I decided to try it first in my chain, and use the looper simply as a convenient way to switch in and out a couple of the other pedals. The result is that I could hear what Grissom was evidently thinking about; on balance, it did help the presentation as a whole.

And as a straight signal without the less-used pedals switched in, it probably cut a foot and a half off the cable length, and that can't hurt.

Granted, these are minor tweaks, but everything I can learn about why the amp was created the way it was helps.

I've set the amp and the pedal chain up to get a bit more creaminess than brightness, though it's still very nicely defined, and has a percussive attack. This is very cool, and makes the result easier to listen to soloed, and in the context of a mix. Before I waste -- er, invest -- more money on pedals, I'm going to get the DG matching cab, and then figure out what to do. But I'm already in a good place, it will only get better! ;)

Edit: I may once again invest in a better buffer, and seriously get this rig in shape.

Cool to hear your experimentation. Keep it coming.

BTW, I saw the Full Drive 3 the other day. I'm so excited they separated the circuits for the boost and the drive. The lack of that independence was the only thing that kept me from buying one before. Now it's back on the list...

It's a much more useful pedal now, and the separate clean boost is actually a great one.

It sounds darn good with the DG on the "90s" setting, but I really think it's a much better tone match on the modern setting with the HXDA.
