It's a 2008 Custom 24. Maybe Emerald Green. Mahogany body and neck. Maple cap. Rosewood fretboard. If you want more, the best thing you can do is look on the outside of the case. On one end there will be a sticker with an alpha-numeric code on it. Enter that code here:

and the decoder will spit out all of the details. If that sticker has been removed from the case, you can remove the bridge pick-up and look in the p/u cavity. The modcat sticker will also be in there.

I'm a little afraid to ask, but how's your dad and what is the history of his guitar?

Yes, Emerald Green. Furthermore, it is an Artist Package spec.

Looks like someone has played the heck out of it.

The difference is the Artist Package has fancier wood and inlay material.

At the time, a regular Custom would not have had the rosewood headstock face. It would've been mahogany that matches the back with a gold Paul Reed Smith logo. With Artist Package, you got paua logo inlay.

You also got paua birds on the fretboard instead of abalone.

An Artist Package top is a notch above a 10 top in figure.

Gold hardware was standard on an Artist Package (but was optional on the regular version).

Not sure when it started, but in more recent years Artist Package has more options for wood choice, pickups, and finish color.
