I want to 'Jazzup' my Vela, the tone is to bright and whitout any compression. Al little mistake on the high strings makes the treble sound peeking. How do i warming up the tone? I'm using the brideg pickup. Adjusting the pickup is not helping much. I've changed allready the strings to 12-49 Jazz strings. Is there any mod?

Personally, I would use the neck Dynasonic-like pup and role the tone back to somewhere between 6 - 8... I'm pretty sure I could manage a working "jazz" tone there with my Vela...

Yes, these are the settings i'm using. Its a bit darker but not much warmer...Thanks for the reply

How about lowering the overall height of the bridge pickup then raising the height of the pole pieces of the lower strings?

Or try replacing the 500k volume pot with a 250-300k pot?

What is the difference between the low pickup-height and the raised poles, What thus it soundwise do? Thanks for the reply...

If the pickups are set high, closer to the strings, the overall sound can be perceived as brighter or more brash. So lowering the overall height can smooth things out a bit. Raising just the pole pieces on individual strings can bring a little more clarity back on those strings. I’d start by just lowering the pickup overall on each side to see if it helps. Count how many times you turn each screw and see if it helps. If you lose too much clarity, say on the wound strings, raise those pole pieces up. Start about a 1/2 turn on each side of pickup, test results. As long as you keep track of what you do you can always move them back if it yields negative results.

OP I bought a used vela semi hollow with a dimarzio PAF style pup in the bridge and love it....not sure it's jazzy but sounds killer!!
