I Tried To Buy Another Guitar, I Really Did

meh, it's still maple over hog
Well, I know you stated a preference, didn't realize it was a hard requirements:

I feel like i need something that's all-hog, all swampy, or mostly swampy like an ME-V, even though it's not a stoptail.

How about a Mira? Do you have one of those? Or hunt down one of the stop-tail Starlas. I don't have your collection memorized, sorry...

Heck, I don't have my collection memorized...

memorizing a collection: right? :p

* I do have a Mira korina so that is covered. Much unapologetic anger and grit here
* Sig LTD covers the maple>hog with Paul's-type pickups
* '89 Sig covers all kinds of territory
* McShootout (57/08s) is that territory
* 594 is that "underwound" thing
* DGT is, well, all over the maple>hog map
* SSH (original) is a lighter sound, less power, yet no delicate
* Studio (original) is that angry, nasty thing
* Cu 22 with D2s, so that is covered
* Mushok so i can go low
* Cu 24 - 58/15 with maple neck so it has it's own thing going on
* Cu 24 - HFS/VB so that era is covered
* SE HB II - great guitar. i mostly play it acoustically
* SE HB STD - another great guitar, primarily used for writing
* NF 53 - man, how i missed swamp ash. This guitar is a little monster

I've had at least three SASs over the years and i keep selling them because i never played them as much os the maple/hog guitars, then i always regret getting rid of them. i *think* the NF 53 is going to solve that problem for me though.

I had a maple>korina piece back in the long-ago time but i didn't jive with it, possibly because i was trying to get it to sound like something it wasn't.

i also had a 408 STD and dug the pure hogginess of it, but it wasn't quite unique enough when compared to the Sig. The Vela might be a viable score here.

So that is where i am - just looking for some interesting combinations of woods and pickups. GAS: my evil mistress.

Only thing missing is an EBMM Axis. Time to bring out your hard rock/metal side! :D

All hog, and not in you current stable....West St Ltd!

i'm happy for you, bro, but i have to play my PRS fanboy card here. I prefer the 10" radius and most of the PRS neck carves, both of which seem to accommodate my lack of skills.
Oh, I’m on board. I have (only) six core PRS, but EBMM makes some great guitars as well.

meh, would it sonically be that much different?
The HB Spruce is the most unique-sounding PRS I've played. I spent an evening playing a friend's at an impromptu jam.

I played it through a vintage 1965 Deluxe. I was expecting a mellow sounding jazz box kind of thing, but it wasn't that at all. The tone is bright, the pick attack is immediate, and the resonance is simply different from the regular HB.

It's an interesting guitar. I'd try one before giving it a 'meh'.
