This story does have a happy ending, I promise!

A few months back I sought and purchased a 09' Smokeburst in Nitro that they released at the PRS event.... Love 'everything' about the guitar. The look, the controls, the 10in radius, those pickups!! WOAH! What I never could bond with though was the width of the neck, it was just slightly to wide.

Couple of years ago I had an injury (be sure to stretch very well before playing kiddos) that means I have to be very picky with necks... I did play the PRS a lot and even on a couple of gigs until it put strain on my hand one night and I was pretty much done! I didn't want to be but I was. I've wanted a PRS since I was 15 so I was super bummed!

A month or so ago I helped a guy negotiate a deal on a Silver Sky and once he got it I only asked to let me play it. Always been a fan of Mayer's pickups and like everyone else I was curious.... It was love at first play! The look, the controls, the 7:25in radius, those pickups!! WOAH!! And the neck is nicely rounded to give a good comfortable feel!

I made myself sell my PRS first before buying one, I get stupid like that sometimes. To make an already long story short I sold the Smokeburst for the same price I paid (1600) so I was out nothing and managed to snag a first run Silver Sky with the special edition case for 1750 shipped!! Best part was my "limit" was 1700 so I basically paid 50 bucks for that case.

I'll spare the pictures since there's probably a lot on here now! haha I will say I don't feel like I'm done with other PRS guitars though, just need to find the neck profile that fits me.... The 09' had a Wide Fat.... Loved the Fat, hated the wide.... Do they have a profile that's a little smaller?

Edit... never knew people liked pictures anymore??? haha Here they are

Also noteworthy: You are the second person lately that I've read that had hand issues (the other guy had arthritis) and said they loved the neck on the SS, and that the rounder shape and fretboard both made it more comfortable for them.

The Pattern Regular and DGT, as someone else pointed out, have a narrower fretboard.

It’s good that you got what you need.
So reading that made me Google a useful description of the DGT neck carve. Which brought me right back to this forum, just a much older thread from 2017.

Hmm, I fully expect DGTs to be available at Experience this year. So maybe I should hunt one down there, maybe with a rosewood neck...

Yes, you should.

Glad you found the guitar for you !!!
It always amazes me as guitar players the small differences we can feel in necks . The difference between wide fat and the silver sky isn’t really even that much when it comes to width. I love music man necks but the small nut width hurts my wrist . I do love the wide fat and pattern regular necks.
One of these days I would love to try a silver sky.

I never would have considered it would happen but it did so know I won't even try to like a guitar if the neck ain't good and sadly the action has to be as low as it can without buzz. I've always been a medium string height player, not anymore.
