I should not have played this guitar today...

Um, I have a US Silver Sky on hold until tomorrow...

You're all a bad influence!! Yes, YOU!

Do you not consider yourself a musician because you don't play professionally? I don't consider that the standard of whether or not you are a musician. You are a musician if you love to play. no matter your skill level. Being a musician is about connecting with an instrument, about the joy you get from playing an instrument. I use to play out regularly in my younger days, I use to sit up until all hours of the morning playing and writing. Now that i am older and have many more responsibilities i don;t get to do that as much, but i still consider myself a musician. and I agree with everyone here, if you found "the one" then you should buy it, because if you don't you will what if yourself to death for the rest of your life.
Sell guitars if you have to, don't let "the one" slip out of your hands.

Oh and yes, never ask a bunch of guitar players if you should be responsible or buy a guitar. they will always tell you to buy the guitar. responsible thinking is for non guitar players! 😆

One more thing, buy used, it saves you a bunch of money! Guitar Centers used is the best thing going. Buy a guitar, you have like 30 days to play it and if you don't jive with it, you can return it no questions asked! what more could you ask for.

I went to GC today, trying to bond with a F US model guitar, and it was not happening, at all. Before I left GC, I had a thought and went for it.

I pulled a new US Silver Sky in Venetian blue with rosewood board from the wall hanger, sat down and played.

It was a religious experience...

I posted the following statement on a different guitar forum, and I share it here because it says it all:

"The last guitar I played at GC today was a masterpiece. Playability for me was off-the-charts great, and both the fit and finish was exemplary...as it should be for it's price tag. But it was it's playability, how it fit me and my style, that grabbed me, shook me and screamed "I am the musical extension of your soul." I kid you not, I've not had this drastic of a feeling of connection with a guitar before, and if I was to buy one it would HAVE to be the one I played at GC today. It was an amazing, intoxicating feeling."

I'm at a loss about what to do. I could swing it, but it's not a sensible thing to do and my wife may not be too thrilled (but would accept it). I am not a musician, nor do I plan to be. I'm just a dude who likes to play guitar. Honestly, I don't feel worthy enough.

I should have not played that Silver Sky today.

J
Buy it if you have the means right now. Or make room for means. You'll regret it later if you don't.

I completely get this! I've got a little over 10 years myself, and I also need to be constantly vigilant about my addictive/impulsive desires.

We joke about "acquisition syndrome" but it's a very real thing (and definitely not limited to just guitars/amps/pedals)!
Ahhh. The addictive personality… I (ahem) know it well… vigilance is the key…been workin now for 44 years…
but guitars have been harder in some ways…yes, GAS is very real
