Okay, so I will be purchasing a PRS probably come the end of January, except I want some opinions from people who own them. I am looking at an S2 Singlecut and the SE Zach Myers. Whichever one I buy is going to have Tremonti pickups put in them. So, I ask those of you have played both, what are your opinions? I'm struggling because having played an S2 (Custom 24). It was a really well built guitar, I like the Wide/Thin neck (Though Wide/Fat is also fine, they're both good necks). I understand the ZM is slightly thicker than your typical Singlecut. My only real complaint with SEs is when I sat down with 5-6 the other day for about 3 hours I couldn't help but feel some of them felt "cheap." Just want to get some opinions as this will be the last electric guitar purchase I make for a couple years (acoustic next!).

Thanks for all the help!

Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with an SE. I've never come across on that i think is "cheap" in quality or sound. I actually think they are good enough to make it harder to justify spending double the amount on a S2. Unless you're stuck on the made in usa thing.

Save for a while and get a full core or Otherwise buy 2 or 3 SEs.

Having owned both... I would generally say that the S2's are indeed superior to the SE's, although I do still LOVE my SE's and rely on them a lot.

The exception would be the SE ZM vs. S2 Singlecut Semi. They're very similar, but if it were me, I would go for the ZM. My buddy has one, and especially if you know you're going to swap pu's, it'll be a great guitar. It has the adjustable stoptail, which is a tone monster. If you think you can jive with the satin neck finish and 24.5" scale, that's what I would do. Although you wouldn't be wrong in going for the S2 either.

I think the SE ZM is a phenomenal guitar; I owned one for a short time that I had a USA nut installed on. It was the best SE I ever owned hands-down, but I also flipped alot of guitars in 2014, and that was one of them. My biggest problem was the generic-ness of the pickups - which if you are going to swap is a non-issue.

Having owned S2s as well, I can also say that S2s are more stable than the SEs (every SE I have ever had needed pretty much daily adjustment - they could never live up to the "holy crap I haven'rt played this thing for a month and it's still in tune" Core models.

Sound-wise, everything being subjective, the S2s are much closer out of the box in terms of expressiveness and character to the Core line. The hardware on the S2 SC Semi is better - you'll get a USA bridge with unplated brass studs and locking tuners to boot. Plus independently coil-tappy goodness.

Merry Axemas!

This is why this is a difficult choice haha. Having to choose between quality guitars is never a bad headache to have though. Thanks guys!

Quick bump on this: Has anyone ever seen the elephant gray model in person? Looks fantastic but curious if it looks every bit as good in person.
