Okay.....so I know my Vela has been home for a day. I know my CE24 has been home for less than two months. I know I have three awesome SE models; all of which have decent upgrades.

I love them all, and enjoy playing each one.

-BUT-

I want a 'Core Model.'

Given what I already have, I'm looking for something a bit different. Nothing too crazy...and nothing along the lines of Private Stock, either (dad has mouths to feed)...but something that would round out my little PRS family tree.

I'm a 90's grunge, classic rock, and alternative fan...so for those of you who speak from experience, if you're so inclined, hit me up with some ideas of guitars to look at. Electrics only, please. I'm not an acoustic kind of guy.

I'm not opposed to previously loved guitars, as long as their squared away and not modded to look like a steam punk nightmare.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated...and I would expect Google to be my friend. ;)

Thanks in advance!!!

The new McCarty or the SC245. I don't think you can go wrong with either one of them.

Good luck on your hunting trip :)

Since you have a CE24 and a Vela :)
I would look at a single cut ( SC58 or Stripper, Single cut trem ) next
Honorable mention
513 / 408
Custom 22
DGT
Can't wait to see whats next
Just to be an enablers here are my latest two ( SC58 and a 513 )

It depends on what SE's you have and what you want your *SOLE* core model to be & function.
If you want your core model to be an all around representation then go CU22, CU24, McCarty, DGT. If you want it to be specialized then you can look at 408, P22, Semi hollow, hollowbody.
If all of your SE's are double cutaway a sgl cut is an option too.

Good luck in your decision.

I love my McCarty Singlecut that I lovingly refer to as The Hammer Of The Gods, it's my #1, but...you might find that once you go Core, everything else will just sit around except the Vela and CE, and the Singlecut occupies more of a niche than some other models.

So for what you're talking about musically, I'd suggest a McCarty (or DGT if you want even more old-school vibe).

If you're a single cut fan, absolutely a 58 or 245. Otherwise, I concur with the dgt and 408 suggestions.

Happy hunting!

My suggestions are DGT or 513.
Naming Pearl Jam as the band I still like from that Grunge period most (and keeping 'em rolling by purchasing their albums), it's very nice, having a versatile guitar switching between McCready (Strat/Tele) or Gossard (Les Paul) "voice". And a 513 delivers kinda P90, which may a suitable tonal feature for crunchy modes aswell.

What's your third one?

I know it's an SE, but the ZM is supposed to be pretty nice.

And yeah, the 513 is a crazy versatile guitar. Like pretty much nothing else in their catalog. 305 is pretty great, too.

Swamp Ash Special is certainly worth finding one of. Actually, scrap that suggestion, I still need to get one myself. DC3?

Speaking of still needing to get one myself, something in "McCarty thickness", as that is a whole different category of PRS.

Studio/NF3?

Paul's Guitar/408 is a really great sound -- I almost let my Paul's Guitar go, but after playing with it more, I finally 'got' it, and am probably keeping it now. Also definitely keeping my P245SH.

Having slept on it, and after searching deep within my soul...I'm fairly certain that a Singlecut is what I'd prefer.

Of my 3 SE models, two are SC bodystyles. While I love the Tremonti SE and SE245...I have a feeling that trading those up to a Singlecut Core would make me quite content (until I wanna buy another).

I'll spend the day looking at 58s and 245s. Plenty of places to search, and there's always the option to order one from my local dealer.

I appreciate the advice and help, sirs.

Feel free to post photos of your American SC models. I'm all for seeing pics...and stealing your ideas and calling them my own!!! :)

Here's my current #1, The Hammer Of The Gods, a McCarty Singlecut; easily the most vintage and amazing sounding SC I've owned:

My former SC58 Artist with ebony fretboard and 53/10s. This one had a very articulate and warm sound, shoulda kept it:

My first one, 2000 Singlecut, ordered the day these were announced; this one sounded amazing, quite the rocker, but could do bluesy/jazzy, too:

There was also a Stripped 58, an SC Trem, an SC Artist Pack, and an SC245 that I don't seem to have pics of any more.
