I had it with Reverb

This is why I keep moving along when I see local cash sellers wanting reverb prices..

It sucks but the rip also brings more than anywhere else. Used Fiore can be found cheaper than $1900 at some dealers.

I still feel your pain.. but not much of an alternative out there

I threw a $20 into the case of a guitar I traded to a dude for an amp in Louisiana because I felt bad and assumed he was gonna pay more for shipping than I was.

Mfker paid $40 less than I did to ship a 75 pound amp.

I sent out two guitars on the same day, from the same UPS place to opposite sides of the US. The Hollowbody cost like, $60 more than the heavier solid body guitar..

I used to think people were ripping me off when they wanted $100 for shipping, now I think they’re overly optimistic.

I've never sold on Reverb, so I don't know how all the fees work...but I heard it's a pain in the a$$. One thing I've done in the past with sites like Reverb is to contact the seller directly. I like to do that anyways just to get an idea of who I am buying from.

Some folks offer to sell directly and bypass the website to avoid the fees. If all looks legit, it can end up saving a bit of money. Not necessarily the most ethical way of doing business, but I guess if they're willing to gamble with the hosting site finding out the seller used it as a way to find potential buyers, then it is what it is.

Of course, doing it this way you lose a lot of that insurance that comes with buying off of hosting sites like the ones out there.

All in all, I'm with Sergio, though....always buy, never sell.

Reverb is basically owned by Etsy. Their fees are nasty when you get up to those prices. When I sell on there, I gotta work that cost into the sell price. There's nobody out there except Craigslist...for obvious reasons...but nobody out there will be cheap on sold item fees. Like others here have said, direct sale is the only way to avoid fees.

I like to talk extensively to a private party that may have an item on Reverb. Do my research, bypass Reverb, deal with the individual.

Was that using Reverb's shipping label? I can't remember the last time I paid more than $70 to ship something using the Reverb discount. Outside of Reverb I found that the best discounted shipping labels are through pirateship.com. Making an account is free and they give very generous discounts.

Fees suck but it still nets more than selling to a local store or going consignment.

+1 for pirateship

You know what else is a scam? All these guys messaging sellers asking to contact a number or email so the guys uncle or dad could buy it. Past 3 PRS sales of mine have received these messages. The World is full of shady people.

Not to Reverb’s level, no. I think you can buy the regular carrier insurance thru them…?

Interesting point. I wonder what happens when you get a ridiculous buyer or worse, scammer, using a 3rd party shipping service? I always feel obligated to get reverb coverage to protect myself more so than the gear. Can you add that coverage using a 3rd party service?

Thanks for the heads up with shipping through pirateship.com. I sell handmade leather guitar and mandolin straps on another site and always ship USPS flat rate priority mail for the included insurance and tracking. I’ll check them out next time I ship. l’ve sold a number of guitars using eBay over the last 20 years and to me they’ve always been expensive to use. I remember before the internet running adds in the local news paper classifieds and putting up flyers on the musics stores bulletin boards was some of the only ways to sell your used gear.
