I gotta say, what really pisses me off to no end is that the HOV lane is for carpooling...yet people have the misconception it's the ef the speed limit I'm going go to 120 in this lane. It's the carpool lane, why would you want to risk your passengers lives?

I use the carpool lane every day with my daughter in the car but it's not much faster given the number of people who blatantly disregard the rules. There's nothing else to do but listen to music and pay attention to this. There are days that with the two cars in front of me and two behind me, three cars of the five of us have single drivers. I have seen city cops using it with only the cop driver in the car (the freeway is patrolled by state cops). I still remember his patrol car number was 911404, because that's code for "Where are the cops? 404 NOT FOUND". Just this morning I saw a single woman in a Corvette convertible driving in the HOV lane. This was the same woman who despite the muscle under the hood was in front of me on the on ramp doing about 45 MPH merging onto a 65 MPH freeway.

What should be legal is me firebombing these people. Watch out for that guy in the Honda Element with his 2 year old daughter in the back seat, that guy is THE ENFORCER. Either that, or we have a penalty system like Finland, where they tie the penalty to your income so that people in Mercedes and Corvettes who seem more likely to disregard the rules and such receive fines that they wouldn't just brush off. That's probably more reasonable.

Man don't EVEN get me started. I think every idiot in the US meets on 380 between Iowa city and cedar rapids during the day. It's amazing we don't lose 10 lives a day on this short stretch.

On a funny note, when my dad was building his new house my brother put bartles and james cutouts in the bay window and people would call dad all the time to report intruders in his house.

Here in my state you can drive by yourself in the HOV lane if you have a Good To Go pass which costs you for it, plus you get charged every time you use that lane a variable fee that changes with the hours.
A receiver or transmitter is installed in your vehicle that communicates with overhead sensors telling them what time and for how long you are in the HOV lane.

Ooh....don't like the sound of that.

We have the same thing here in Minnesota. How 'capitalistic' of them. You won't see those two words in the same vicinity very often.

Can confirm. I pass through this intersection frequently, even today on my way back home from Independence and La Porte City.

I may be one of those idiots you speak of gush... ;)

Ya gotta like the creativity here though. If I was the cop, I would've let him off with a warning for that factor. I mean, he's buckled up and everything!

You've never met my passengers. :o

There are no HOV lanes where I live here in the boonies of Texas. The biggest problem I have with traffic here, other than the usual fools who pay more attention to their phones than they do anything else, and the women who are forever checking their looks in their mirrors, are the uneducated slowpokes who insist upon using the left lane. The rule 'Slow Traffic Keep Right' actually exists, people! Also, it should be common knowledge statewide by now that (A) the left lane is MINE, and (B) stay out of it, especially if you're going to dawdle!

Goldtop

They built HOV lanes on a new highway (several years ago) that comes into the city from the north. It's not getting a lot of traffic. The solution people proposed? Reduce the minimum number of occupants to one.

Not BY one - TO one.

I'm not sure which part of HIGH OCCUPANCY they missed. Unless they think it refers to a different definition of 'high'.

I worked in CR today, didn't see you on my way home! There was a plethora of left lane stragglers today though.

You sure it was during HOV hours? They didnt have those clean air plates did they? And Cops are exempt. Lot of people don't understand AZ. HOV lane rules.
