I bought my first PRS. It's the PRS SE Custom 24 Tobacco Burst. I went to a store to try that and other guitars. I tried the Gibson Les Paul Studio 50s Tribute T 2016 and the Gibson Les Paul Studio Satin T 2016 too.

The Les Pauls, especially the Tribute, were a mess. In the tribute, the input jack was not perfectly working and gave an intermittent signal. I don't know if it needed to be tightnen or it was a soldering problem, but it was annoyng. The setup was not so great... pretty high action. The overall feeling of the paint job and tactile feeling were kinda cheap.

Then I tried the PRS SE Custom 24 in Tobacco Burst. From the very first moment I held it, I loved it. In comparison, the Les Paul felt and looked like a damn toy. The guitar was very resonant, the fretboard was magnificent (I tought the Les Paul fretboard was nice, but the PRS one was on a whole another level)... To me, even comparing those guitars is pure madness. The PRS felt so much better I can't express it with words.

I instantly fell in love and bought it. The tone is different from the Les Paul, and I love that Les Paul tone (those pickups in the Tribute are really good) but overall, to me, there's really no question on what's the better guitar.

Furthermore, the PRS was the last one left and they gave me a huge discount (22%) ... I got it for a price many people sell used ones. I'll post a proper NGD thread when I'll have nice photos!

Thanks... now I'll immediately get the lampshade knobs from the american PRSs... a good setup, and I'm set!

Congrats! Pics or it's a fake;)

Fair is fair.

The US knobs aren't a direct fit, but congrats on the guitar anyway!

He should be ok. I've got amber lamp shades on my SE Bernie. I may have had to spread the wings a touch though. Can't recall, but they're on there nice and snug.

The only issue I have, it seems to be a bit too much of friction bending the strings... sometimes uneven friction. I can't see any fault on the frets... could it be resolved with a simple professional setup?

More than likely. Shipping half way around the world can have a little effect on the truss rod. Maybe just a little tweak. Some new strings, etc. Should be right as rain.

Thanks...one other mod I'd like to do is replacing the oval korean jack plate with the square jack plate of US PRSs... is that possible? That, a second push-pull switch for the out-of-phase, and the lampshade knobs... then I'm ready for shoot some serious pictures of my baby :)

The friction could be nut binding, or a 3 spring set up. Try going to 4 springs, get the nut changed, and you can rock on. I have an SE C24 also. IT`s so nice that I`m selling a very fine S2 Custom 22 because I actually like the SE better. Also note that there is some break in on the tremolo. Don`t hesitate to work it up and down a few times before you tune up. After a month or so it`ll get really responsive. And congrats and welcome.

You can use the square Jack plate. However, it is not big enough to cover the screw holes of the oval one. It's close though. There are picks around here somewhere that show it.

I saw that pic... that's pretty annoying... I hope I can find a slightly bigger plate even if it's not original. Otherwise I'll keep the football plate :(

That's one thing I do not understand. Personally I prefer the appearance aesthetics of the oval korean jack plate over the square jack place, Functionally I cannot detect any difference performance-wise. "if it ani't broke, don't fix it!" IMHO
