Hi all,

I finally crowned my dream of 15 years to own a Custom 24 core, after owning a CE. I got this one off Reverb, but I am struggling to find info about its finish.

The vendor said it is a Lake Blue finish, but I cannot find any confirmation anywhere. All I can find is that the S2 line has a current Lake Blue model, and all the catalogues I have seen do not list this finish as an option, even as an Artist Package.

It also appears to have stock TCI pickups, and my understanding is that they did not sell these on Customs until 2020, with this being a 2019 model (with a poly finish, I’m pretty sure).

Any insight?

Enjoy ! Looks great ! Being a late 19 built it could be a 2020 model ... but if you wanna make sure mail PRS customer service, I would suggest.

TCI was a prgressove rollout before offocial to all guitars. Theres something called a modcat number on a sticker under the pickups or on the case. Also can be on the paperwork or hangtag somewhere. Put this in a modcat decoder to get all the specs. Or email the serial to PRS.

Congrats on achieving the dream! The Cu24 was my first core too and what a game changer

Great looking axe! Congrats!! The images I have seen of lake blue are a lighter color than what I see on yours, but that could just be lighting. I think this looks like the "Royal Blue" they used to offer, but I think that has been gone for a long time (like before that '19 was built), but I could be wrong and often am ;~)) As mentioned, contact PRS Customer Support with your modcat and/or serial number and they will give you all the factory specs including color!

So the Customer Support confirmed this was a custom colour (but could not confirm what colour it was, it also has an Indian Rosewood fretboard). How do custom colours even work with production guitars?

I am going with the retired Royal Blue then for the win! This is my understanding on "Custom Colors". A dealership, for special occasions (like store anniversaries, etc.) or Wood Library runs can get what are known as "Custom Colors". That does not mean the dealer can choose a color to match their fingernail polish, but can choose colors from the PRS line that are not currently available on production models. That may include but is not limited to retired colors, PS colors or "painters choice" (where on occasion the painter is allowed to go a little hog wild) colors. There may be other scenarios than what I mention here, but that is my basic understanding! Great axe either way and if I were to ever have to name the color, it would be my already registered guess ;~))

Congrats on the new guitar. As for pickups, I know that my 2019 Custom 24 Core guitar is has 85/15 TCI, but it's also a 35th Anniversary and if I recall, among the first of the TCI treatment rollout. Insofar as color, check the Modcat number in the pickup cavity and you should be able to find out all kinds of info. I will admit though, it looks quite close to my Lake Blue S2 10th Anniversary Custom 24.
