Hybrid hardware questions

Hi guys! First post here.

I have recently been offered to purchase a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, that Rabea Massad has owned. And I wanted to just ask a few questions to some people that know more about these guitars than I do.

So my question is, does PRS put hybrid hardware on any Custom model? Or does it have to be a specific trim, like 10 top or artist? Because as far as I can see, I can only find hybrid hardware on 10 tops or Artist package guitars.

The one I’m going to go look at is a 2014 Custom 24. It isn’t a 10 top, and it doesn’t say Artist package in the little spec folder. But it has stock hybrid hardware (That’s what Rabea said to the guy that bought it from him, and that’s the guy I’m buying it from)

So can you get stock hybrid hardware on non 10 tops, and non artist package models?

Kindest regards.
WoahSpook.

I could be wrong, but from what I understand hybrid hardware is only available on 10 tops and up. The guitars I have owned with hybrid hardware have been 10 tops or Artist Package.

Yeah, this is correct. WL, 10 Top, Artist, etc. A "regular" Core won't have Hybrid hardware.

The oldest PRS catalog that I have is for 2014. In 2014, hybrid hardware was available as an option separate from 10-top or artist package so you might find a core from that year with hybrid hardware. Since then I haven't seen it as an option.

I was just told that the little hangtag with specs doesn’t say anything in the special order area. Would it be possible that it’s an artist model that left factory and someone forgot to write anything in special order? I have seen a few artist package guitars without any writing in the special order area. A little factory oops? Or just some weird regular core with some bling?

Cant you also just buy the two-tone hardware from PRS and put on aftermarket as well?

Congrats on your new guitar. It looks stellar.... may it's mojo inspire you.

Could be either. Another way to figure it out will be with the Modcat. If it’s a Core, you’d be able to get all of your answers from that. If it’s a WL or Artist, the Modcat will be different. Shorter. The Modcat is an alpha numeric barcode. There will be a sticker on one of the edges of the case, and one under the bridge pickup.

You can enter it here and get all of the specs.

As far as I know, you can get hybrid hardware aftermarket. But this one has it from factory (confirmed from the guy that bought it from Rabea)

Thanks man! The mojo is strong with this one

Thanks man! This will come in handy!

IIRC, the "hybrid hardware" is actually gold-plate and brushed chrome or nickel over nickel, not silver as Rabea describes. Silver is actually a very soft metal that isn't as stable as chrome or nickel.

To be sure, check with @Shawn@PRS to learn what the hardware is constructed of.

The top and rosewood headstock veneer would make me believe it's an Artist model, however, looking here https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/custom_24_2020 it shows you can order hybrid hardware without the Artist Package, so ... <shrug emote>

In any case, it's a glorious axe.

I just searched up the 2014 Prs website, and it doesn’t really mention anything about hybrid hardware being an option. This guitar is becoming quite a mystery for me. Also the case lost the modcat sticker, and I’m not comfortable with the seller taking out the bridge pickup. So I’m going to do it myself when I get it :D

If you click on the Specs link on the 2014 page, it lists Hybrid as a hardware option.
