I had to open my HX/DA today as I blew the B+ fuse(s) (thanks to Matt for pointing that out for me) and need to replace them. I could not recall if anyone had previously posted any gut shots of the amp (and I know how you guys like that kind of amp porn), so I figured I'd take a bunch and post. Here's an overview shot, and the photobucket link below has several close-ups (subject to my phone camera skills). :)

Nice shot!

I think I posted one a while back, but it's hard to remember.

I love amp porn. It would be nice to have one thread for all of the different model gut shots. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

Great pictures..because I know nothing about inside amps can someone please tell me what things are off limits to touch (you know stuff that can kill) just in case I ever have to change these fuses.

thanks.

I'd pretty much only touch the fuses.

Nothing else you need to touch in there except the fuses because the biasing is done from outside the chassis with the awesome easy access bias system Doug designed. Also, note that in the photo above, the B+ fuses are pulled out already and the empty fuse sockets are shown. On the older versions of this amp (i.e., 25th anniversary) those fuses were 0.5amp, 440V which are hard to get a hold of. In the HXDAs, they have changed them to 0.5amp, 250V which are much easier to obtain. In fact I found a set of non-ceramic ones at radio shack which made quick replacement possible last weekend.

I took these some time ago... Look pretty much the same as yours...

It's an interesting construction technique. I think that EM7 posted here that he was told by PRS that the basic idea was to make it more or less identical to an eyelet board, but avoiding jumper wires on the bottom side of the board (so that a klutz like me could unsolder a component on the top side without the worry of having a jumper on the bottom falling off.) So the pc board just serves to route what would ordinarily be jumpers in a traditional hand wired design.

Regarding what not to touch, I hate to discourage people from tinkering. Just read up on it, learn how to discharge caps safely, and take some standard precautions and the HX/DA is a very easy amp to mod to your heart's content if you're in to that sort of thing...
