Hi folks, hope all is well.
I got a crazy idea, maybe someone can convince me to pull the trigger or not. I’ve had my S2 Mccarty for a while now and, I’m not getting bored by it, but I want to try something different with it. Ideally I’d love to get my hands on a single Narrowfield and basically turning it into my copy of the Modern Eagle, however I’m striking out finding one. So
1) Is there a comparable pickup on the market to the Narrowfield?
2) Is there any reason, other than it potentially costing north of $700, that I shouldn’t get my Mccarty routed for a single coil in the middle position?
And for the record, my Mccarty is my main gigging guitar, it already has a myriad of dings and superficial damage. I have no intention of getting rid of it for as long as I’m kicking.

I've got no problem with you "making it yours", but it isn't reversable if you find out you don't like it, so be sure it does what you want it to do. The other thing is just invest the money (and a bit more) into another PRS that already has the Mod you want. Then you can go to that guitar when you want that sound and come back to the McCarty when you want what you have. I really enjoy pulling one I haven't played in a while and reliving the thrill of why I wanted it in the first place.

Narrowfield and single coil pickups produce different results, especially when used in combination with other pickups. The MEV with the middle single coil and the Special Semihollow and the Studio with the Narrowfield pickups produce different tones. The first step is deciding which tone you are chasing.

Save yourself the trouble and buy a used SE Silver Sky for less than the cost of modifying the S2 McCarty. Or maybe the SAS or NF3.

I have a bunch of S2s and my SAS scratches that itch you have...Daves has one cheap and otherwise they're all on sale now give one a shot....

If you wanna do it go for it. Its your guitar and nothing particularly unique. Make it your own.

I wouldn't be as concerned with a NF but more a single in HSH, my favorite config for a guitar. I may not use the middle alone often but I do combined with the neck or bridge split all the time.
